Maclin hyperextends knee

POSTED: Tuesday, August 3, 2010, 4:14 PM

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Eagles suffered another injury -- and yet another injury to one of their starting wide receivers when Jeremy Maclin fell to the ground with a hyperextended left knee, the team said, at Tuesday's afternoon practice.

The Eagles said Maclin will still be evaluated.

Maclin was sprawled out on the turf for several minutes as trainers looked him over. Coach Andy Reid came over, observed the scene and then called off the rest of practice.

"It killed the mood," wide receiver Hank Baskett said of Maclin's injury.

The second-year receiver had to be carted off the field and helped into the locker room. Maclin's injury comes on the heels of DeSean Jackson's back injury from Saturday. Jackson hasn't played since, although Reid said he was near to returning.

The Eagles were also missing center Nick Cole this afternoon. Mike McGlynn filled in. Guard Stacy Andrews (shoulder) did return, as did wideout Jordan Norwood (hamstring).

Back with more.

I think it would be faster to list the Eagles who aren't injured.

At this rate we will have to carry 7 receivers on our final 53 roster just to get through the Green Bay game. Fatman needs to have the starting WRs calm down and stop trying to impress so much - let the basketts and Chad halls of the world try all out and if they get hurt no biggie...

This football people. It's why they have 80 man rosters in TC, 50+ for the regular season and 45 on game day. I'm sure it's part of the reason why AR, Howie and Co. went after 13 draft picks this year to really fill out the roster and have some depth, which they accomplished for the most part. Let's see what they say and if he can't go for an established amount of time, then Hollywood and Washington (sounds like an intersection) have to step up!

80 man rosters? Please, tell me who on the roster, aside from Desean Jackson, has Maclin's talent at WR? I don't think Avant/Baskett/Cooper/Washington will put any fear in opposing D.Coordinators.

i'm no big reid fan, but when buddy ryan had training camp he let everybody beat up on each other too...except everybody loved that, now everybody asking for no contact drills. buddy's guys had all kinds of injuries too, and they got fearsome for it. this team has some young and feisty going for the first time since maybe 1990, no? i like it... and i'm not worried. if kolb goes down, then worry.

Instead of ratcheting up the expectations and competition the first week, the coaches should be repeatedly telling guys to take it easy, learn the plays we're installing, and get their bodies tuned up for the second week of practice. The team is out there trying to prove how great they'll be this year or fighting for a spot, and everyone's taking their bodies beyond the limit. First week should tax the lungs and heart and biceps, not the joints and backs.

46 and 2, do you need the other Eagles Wr's to have the talent of Maclin in TC or would you like to see them get additional reps in practice where the coaches can apply direct, hands-on instruction and make them better. And you have 80 man rosters in TC so you can bring a bunch of them in, and try to find some diamonds in the rough. BTW, 46 and 2, is that your waist size and IQ?
