Maclin says he's playing; Another OL shuffle likely

Jeremy Maclin said that he was playing Sunday against the Redskins despite a lower back strain that could restrict him during Wednesday's practice.

Earlier, Andy Reid said that Maclin was "making progress" and "might be able to do some things" at Wednesday's practice. The wide receiver injured his back when he was undercut going up for a pass in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

The Eagles are already down one receiver. Reid said that Jason Avant (hamstring) would not play Sunday. With Avant out, Riley Cooper will become the Eagles' third receiver. If Maclin plays, he, DeSean Jackson and Cooper will rotate into the slot. Damaris Johnson will also gets his share of snaps.

Danny Watkins returned to practice, although it was uncertain how much he would be able to do. The guard has an ankle injury which has restricted his lateral movement, the Eagles have said. Watkins said that he anticipated playing Sunday, but would have to see how his ankle handled Wednesday's practice.

If Watkins is back, Dennis Kelly could move from right guard to one of the tackle spots. Both Demetress Bell and King Dunlap struggled against the Cowboys. Dunlap's issues were more mental, while Bell still can't seem to execute Howard Mudd's blocking schemes.

The Eagles added veteran Jake Scott to the mix on Monday. The former Colts and Titans guard, who played under Mudd in Indianapolis, hasn't been with a team all season. He played 120 straight games from 2004-11.

“I was picky in the situation. I wanted it to be the right situation," Scott said. "I wanted it to be somewhere where I could come in and have a chance to play.”

Scott conceded that he still has the learn the Eagles offense before he could be comfortable playing, but said that “I got to be ready for this Sunday if they need me. So I’ll be ready for Sunday.”

I was worried about him the first time I saw him try to return a kickoff in his first preseason game. He got thumped and looked like he didn't wnat to return. He is a huge dissapointment (very common thread with Reids picks) he is also very soft!

just think we could of had hakeem nicks, but instead we moved up to get maclin! we have the 2 softest receivers in the nfl.everytime maclin gets hit he gets hurt, another one of reid's draft day mishaps one more reason he should be fired right now.people always talk about the draft when they passed on jpp,but passing on nicks was just as big because we still dont have a 1wr and nicks could have been the one,he knows how to get seperation ,is sure-handed and is very physical. we dont have wr with all those attributes.the best wr the eagles have is mardy gilyard and he .doesnt get any time. reid is sure a great judge of talent!lol
