Maclin: Giants have "no business" talking

POSTED: Wednesday, September 21, 2011, 1:35 PM

Did the Eagles make the right move by replacing Casey Matthews at middle linebacker with Jamar Chaney?
Yes. The veteran Chaney should be better at calling plays and will help improve the Birds’ run defense.
No. The rookie Matthews showed potential and just needed more time to develop.

You ready for a rivalry week?

The Eagles and Giants mouths were off and running before the first practices of the week. Of course, the Eagles have had the better side of this Jersey Turnpike battle recently, winning six straight against the Giants, including the memorable 21 point rally last December at the new Meadowlands.

"It’s a new season, it's a new year. We understand that we have to go out there and play the game," said wide receiver Jeremy Maclin. Innocent enough. Then he added this, "on the other hand, they have no business talking, because they haven’t done anything the last six times."

Maclin didn't start the trash talk -- LeSean McCoy and Osi Umenyiora helped get that going via Twitter this summer and the Giants' Antrel Rolle fed the flames this week, saying on New York radio that he could "handle" DeSean Jackson.

"He’s just talking," Maclin said. "A lot of times people talk, they’re either insecure or scared, so you guys choose ... he’s talking so it says something."

One person who has a unique view of the animosity between the two teams is Steve Smith, who moved to the Eagles from the Giants, but not before ripping the Eagles for a lack of trophies on Twitter.

Smith did everything he could to defuse any questions about his role in the rivalry and the upcoming game.

"I’m an Eagle now and I’m excited about now," Smith said.

Reporters kept pressing.

"Just another game for me right now," he said.

Asked if he had something to prove to his old team, Smith said, "What do I gotta prove? I know exactly what I can do. I proved a lot in that uniform. It’s time to prove something in this uniform."

Shut up and play. Don't give them any more reason to hate us, and go out there and embarass them. Best way to get 'em back.

Vick points to the scoreboard in response to boos from the Atlanta fans as he walks off the field; Maclin takes the bait offered by the Giants ... seems like these guys just can't help themselves.

Who cares? Trash talking from either end is not going to motivate the other team any more than they already are. It's a divisional game! If you're not motivated, then you shouldn't dress. I don't care if/what Maclin, or anyone on the eagles says. If you believe trash talking fuels the other teams, then you're an idiot.

I agree with Argh27. Please shut up and play. Infact, Eagles Players including QB Michael Vick should stop this mouthing and stay focus for each game. We the FANS should be talking.

Eagles should be good enough to talk trash and then win like New England did when they went 19-0 (although they were cheating). Unfortunately, we are not there yet...

Maclin has no business talking either. It will be a tough enough game without getting the Giants revved up more.

As long as Kafka doesn't get sent to the hospital in back of that wonderful O-Line of Howie's, the offense should score about 28-31 points. Our defense should just not exert themselves at ALL chasing down the run game...so they can stay fresh in the fourth quarter to chase Eli. (That's the last of my Juan liners.)

Maclin just catch the ball in the clutch and all will be well!
