Luries to divorce

Eagles owners Jeffrey and Christina Lurie are ending their 20-year marriage, the couple told team employees Wednesday evening.

The two sent a message to the organization, calling it a "difficult decision."

"This was not a decision made easily or without deep consideration for each other, our children and our extended families. But it is one we have reached mutually and with the greatest respect for each other and each of our roles in our work here at the Eagles," they wrote.

The Luries said their split will have "no impact whatsoever on the ownership, the business and the operations of the Philadelphia Eagles football team."

"Please know that we remain close friends and we will continue to work together as partners," they wrote. "We share the same goals for the Eagles that we have always had. We want a world championship team, of course, and we want to carry on the dedicated community service that is so much a part of this company's heart and soul."

Jeffrey Lurie has been the visible owner when it comes to football matters, taking a prominent role in the recent decisions to sign Michael Vick, retain Andy Reid and in the press conference announcing Joe Banner's resignation as team president. Christina Lurie has been the face of the team's philanthropic efforts. The Luries' message said neither of those areas will be affected by their divorce.

The two requested privacy from the team and media.

Well it is sad to hear I wish them both well. Nobody now days wants to endure through the tough patches, they would rather move on. SMH

Let's hope that what happened with the Dodgers' and the McCourt family doesn't happen with the Eagles. People tend to say one thing but usually do something else esp. when/where there's MONEY involved.

Appears Lurie is making a mess of his life. Embarrasses his long time best friend Joe Banner with an ugly split, then splits with his long time spouse, but decides to keep his failing head coach. Bad Lurie decisions are on a roll...and they will effect the team.

Tough couple of months for Laurie. First he loses his best friend, then he loses his wife. Well he still has old Andy to cheer him up. Jeff, you have to put your life in a better position.

I hear you, carmendmv. It always cracks me up when people make a public announcement that they want privacy. Too funny.

Best wishes to the Luries. No matter what anyone says, they have made the Philadelphia Eagles into a class organization. I hope they have had good counseling regarding this decision.

Nw sell the team and go back to the Boston that you love so much.Get someone in here who really wants to win a SB and not just turn a profit.

Good. Now unleash the lawyers and let them have at each other, so that both sorry sides to this ownership regime will feel compelled to sell the franchise to refill their coffers. Hopefully our next owner will be as capable as Robert Kraft.

I wonder what will be said after they start 1-3. Look at the schedule. 9-7. Book it, brothers.
