Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie to hold press conference Thursday
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Jeffrey Lurie will hold his annual state of the Eagles press conference tomorrow at 4 p.m. at Lincoln Financial Field before his team hosts the New York Jets in the preseason finale.
The owner was originally scheduled to meet with reporters on Aug. 5 during training camp, as usual. But on that morning Andy Reid's son, Garrett, was found dead in his Lehigh University dorm room. The Northampton County Coroner has not yet released an official cause in the death of Garrett Reid.
Lurie spoke briefly after the Eagles' afternoon practice that day, about Reid's loss and the coach's devotion to the team and desire to return. Reid missed only two days of practice and was back with the Eagles three days after his son's death.
Topics likely to be covered during Lurie's presser on Thursday will be:
-- Reid's future with the Eagles. The coach has two years left on his contract, but is coming off an 8-8 season that Lurie called "unacceptable" back in January. Reid's agent, Bob LaMonte, showed up at training camp six days after Garrett Reid's death and brought up to reporters conversations he said he's always had with Lurie that Reid would be his coach as long as he was owner. Lurie responded with a statement saying that Reid, like almost everyone in the NFL, will be evaluated after the season.
-- Lurie's divorce. The Eagles announced the Luries' split on July 4. While the statement made it clear that Jeffrey and Christina's parting would have no effect on the Eagles and that they would continue to work together, there was some concern that the team could be torn apart in divorce proceedings. Earlier this month, though, there was a report that Lurie would maintain majority ownership and still have the final say in all matters related to the Eagles. Christina Lurie will have a small stake in the team like other minority owners.
-- Joe Banner's departure. Banner stepped down as president in June and took on a senior advisor role with the Eagles. It was viewed in some circles as Reid winning a power struggle, but Lurie lost one of his closest aides when Banner left. Banner is still technically with the team, but he is expected to be named president of the Browns once the sale of that team is finalized sometime in the next two months.

This guy has nothing to say of interest until he says "andy reid is fired". sewell guy- unfortunately we will have to see at least one more season of 4th quarter collapses before he says those words. But you might see Todd Bowles become DC mid-season with Juan getting "more time to work with the linebackers" or something, because "thats his passion".
You guys will be the starting Quarterback for the NY-Giants before Lurie fires Andy Reid.
Who cares about his divorce? How is it that man, who are football fans are overly concerned with Lurie's divorce settlement? All short of the Eagles relocating to the West Coast as part of the divorce settlement, why care?
Dexter- Actually Andy will be coaching in San Diego by the time the Giants have a new quarterback. Eli is a 2x time superbowl champion and still has 4 or 5 good years left. Andy will be on year 15 next year, of which no coach has ever won a SB after that many years with the same team, if they didnt win one IN THE FIRST 14 TRIES. NEVER. PATHETIC. HE WILL BE FIRED UNLESS THERE IS A MIRACULOUS TURNAROUND. ODDS ARE HE CONTINUES GOING .380 AGAINST PLAYOFF TEAMS AND IS LOOKING TO GO BACK TO DANA POINT, CALIFORNIA, WHERE DUMB PASSING OFFENSES CAME FROM. TERRIBLE.
I'll sum up his press conference now "as long as you dopes keep buying into the illusion that Andy Reid is more than an average coach without Jimmy Johnson he will remain coach". Now go out and buy some more merchandise while I come up with a great excuse for this upcoming 7-9 season. Phils_World_Champs
Sorry if my post bothers some of You negadelphians but I'm looking forward to what our best owner ever has to say. It's cool that he was able to get a positive divorce...there is such a thing and I speak from experience.Putting off speaking after Garrett's death showed some intelligence and class, both of which Lurie has plenty of. greenbloodVAEagle- Most of us share your sentiments. The vocal minority like to read their words here so as to appear valid. They know not what idiots they truly are.
joeibt - lol, uhh 51% is not a "minority"...when 60% wanted McNabb gone...he was traded within months of the season ending. (after the terrible dallas playoff loss.) If they have another bad season that number will go up by at least 5% like it went from 45% to 51% this past season...meaning close to 60% WANTING REID FIRED. 75% want howie gone AND A MAJORITY WANT BOTH COORDINATORS FIRED AS WELL AND ONLY 45% EVEN WANT JEFF LURIE TO STAY ALL ACCORDING TO A POLL ON THIS VERY SITE. MOST FANS WANT THE ENTIRE COACHING GROUP FIRED. THE ENTIRE ORGANIZATION IS A JOKE.
Mystified as to what will change to make the Birds a better team? Adjustment and improvising are what turns a game around after half time. Andy can do neither. Bad time out and clock management will lose one or two games a year. Nothing will change until you make a change. Ten and six, lose in second round of playoffs, again. Mystified
