Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb was still down but ready for another chance the day after his first NFL start resulted in some big numbers -- 391 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions -- and a lopsided loss to the New Orleans Saints.

"It hacks you off that there's this negative attitude and you realize that maybe there is eight plays in there if we just do one thing a little different, the game could have been different," Kolb said.

The fact that coach Andy Reid said Kolb would start Sunday against Kansas City if Donovan McNabb is sidelined for a second straight week was encouraging to the former second-round pick.

"You always want to keep proving yourself, so every time he continues to have faith in me, it gives me more confidence," Kolb said. "You know he sees something there and hopefully that turns into something. This week it has to. Hopefully I can turn into the starter that he sees and wants me to be."

Asked what he thought his strength as a quarterback was, Kolb gave an interesting answer.

"It used to be ball security, but that's what I have to get better at," Kolb said. "I have to get better at taking care of the ball and not giving up cheap ones like I did."

Kolb has thrown seven interceptions and lost two fumbles in nine career games.

His senior year at the University of Houston, he threw 30 touchdowns and just four interceptions in just 14 games.

You can read more about Kolb's day after in tomorrow's Inquirer.

He'll start again. McNabb has a displaced rib fracture. If that doesn't heal properly it could require surgery later. They would be out of their minds to put him back out there too early. If he got hit there again before proper healing it could even be life-threatening, depending on which rib was displaced.

I think you're being hyperbolic. Bo Strange in '61 was a great college player but never even played for the Eagles. John Schiechl in '40 didn't work out. And how about that Lawrence Sampleton? 52 total yards receiving for the Eagles in 3 seasons. Terrible!

Siran Stacy. That's going back a few years, but he was very bad.

No, RBC, not even close. Even if he never takes another snap, he's already ahead of most of Reid's 2nd rounders. JLB named a few -- consider also Bobbie "inactive" Williams and Barry Gardner.

How can a guy who throws for 391 yards in his first NFL start represent the worst 2nd round pick ever? People around here are so spoiled with Donavan, that they forget what it is like to have a basically rookie QB starting. They all make mistakes. Kolb has a strong arm, and demonstrated an ability to move the team up and down the field. If Jay Cutler was the Eagles QB, and he had a game like he had in his first game, many of the fans would be calling for his head. Kolb was hamstrung by a team that had to throw on most plays due to "special" team and defensive gaffes. Eventually, this will lead any QB to interceptions - McNabb included.

do not even try and put this one on kolb. not many quarterbacks will win when their defense gives up 48 points

Kolb looked pretty good. Threw a couple cheap picks at the end. Only one big mistake. Love the way he hangs in the pocket and delivers with accuracy. I think the kid has a bright future.

Kolb played okay in a tough situation - having to carry the team on his back because of the defense breaking down (or not showing up)and a nonexistent run game. Let's see how how does now that he is working with the first team and has a game under his belt. Vick won't be the answer to the Eagle's lousy play unless he can run block and play cornerback.
