Kolb: "That wasn't quite ... sharp"
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Kevin Kolb got his first taste of what it's like to face the media following his first below-average outing as the Eagles' starting quarterback. The Eagles beat the Chiefs, 20-17, Friday night but that's about the best thing you can say about the performance -- especially about Kolb and the offense.
Kolb completed just 11 of 25 passes for 103 yards and tossed his first interception of the preseason. He's yet to throw a touchdown in more than six quarters of preseason play and hasn't guided the offense to a red zone touchdown in five trips inside the 20-yard line.
"That wasn't quite as sharp as we would have liked it, for sure," Kolb said after the game. "There are a lot of details we have to clean up. There needs to be some special attention to it, starting with myself. The shining light of the whole thing is that it's 0-0 come here in two weeks and we start fresh."
Eagles coach Andy Reid wasn't as critical of his young quarterback.
"I think this was great work for him," Reid said. "I think there were some positive situations. He did some good things early and we just got to keep it rolling and give him opportunities. Everybody had a little piece of that pie."
Reid was asked if a young first-team offense, one that was supposed to be explosive, should be discouraged after three relatively unproductive preseason games.
"They shouldn't be discouraged," Reid said. "They seemed upbeat and positive. They just got to keep working."
Kolb was without his best receiver, DeSean Jackson, who left with a neck strain. Reid said Jackson should be fine and that he took his No. 1 receiver out for precautionary reasons. Kolb also constantly had a blitzing Chiefs defender in his mug.
"They brought a few extra things there and a couple of them were me," Kolb said, "and couple of them, you know, we could have gotten."
In another injury note, defensive end Trent Cole had a sprained ankle. Reid said an X-ray was negative, but that Cole was having an MRI Saturday. The end was seen walking in the locker room with a rather severe limp.
- Drop 3 games from preseason. Injuries for most teams are mounting. With 2 more reg season games, rosters should be expanded to 58 players at least, and if players get hurt, it will be for a real game at least. Some positives, right side of line and center caused much of the offenses problems, Kolb had little time, and we could have called a few more runs. But the injuries are ruining teams chances before the season starts. Hope the guy from KC is o.k., as well as Trent. Desean got his bell rung/stiff neck, should be fine. I seen him take harder hits this preseason then most of last year. Also, what is up with officiating? Horrible so far, from all the games I watched. The whole ref in the backfield really is a bad idea, and strange for a league that wants more scoring. But then the ref moves to defensive side under 2 mins? Not working out, so far too many penalties, yet missed calls as well.
Finally an article that somewhat shows the true negatives of kk and the o people are caught up in this fantasy like the eagles are about to win a superbowl and that kk is so accurate because the media told us so man this chimp is toast and so is this season kiss this year goodbye eagles faithful shaad
Kevin Kolb, master of the understatement if nothing else. That was a singular unimpressive showing and as far as being his first below avaerage performance as the starting QB there really haven't been any ABOVE average performances at all. tpizza
Let's be honest! That was a a horrible performance. Thank God this is just pre-season. I'm hoping it gets better Eaglesfan804

hey - its a rebuilding year, lets face it. on the upside they are young, which means if they can get some success, it could snowball into some swagger, so it is hard to predict. if you made me pick, i'd have to say - realistically they are a 5 win team. but if you think about the opposite end of the spectrum they could be playoff caliber. the key will be injuries and confidence. if they start thinking and believing that they are mediocre, the certainly will be. this is going to be a roller coaster year, but hey, let's face it, that is normal for us. maybe not normal for the past 8 years, but in the long run, since our most recent championship about 50 years ago, this year will be normal. i'll be happy with 8-8. 9-7 could get us in. stranger things have happened. jamal jackson's return is a big factor in this whole mess. The O-line looks pretty bad, but Kolb also runs to his right too quickly. He should start throwing the ball away or he's not gonna last very long. jimmyj
"Kolb was without his best receiver, DeSean Jackson, who left with a neck strain." AND... McNabb spent 11 yrs here without a #1,2 or 3 WR and he made lemonade out of lemons. "Kolb also constantly had a blitzing Chiefs defender in his mug.", You are kidding right, this is preseason that was vanilla pressure a best what do think it will look like when the season really starts. My point is lets stop with the excuses for the guy, he 3yrs into the system, they've given him some of the best talent out there and he still looks like he did on day one after the draft. Lets face facts the FO got this one wrong, and when you think about it this isn't the first time for them. KK= wasted 3yrs. realtruth
It was McNabb's fault. richd618- McNabb was handed lemons and made lemonade while Kolb was handed poop and made poop juice.

Kolb looked terrible, lets be honest. No way to sugar coat this. You wanted McNabb gone and you got your wish. KK is a Y2K version of Bobby Hoying. I'm Opressed. Coach out! Coach Cle

He has such a great rapport with the younger players. So accurate. We aren't missing a beat. Green Bay is gonna beat us by 30. Hope everyone is payin attention to what contender looks like. It'll be one of the few times we see one all year. 7-9 Iggles21
