Kolb: "I got to prove" I'm the starter
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Kevin Kolb is back and ready to return to his position as the Eagles starting quarterback.
Of course, there are some that believe Kolb isn't the man for that job after Michael Vick filled in for the last game and a half, and helped guide the Eagles to their first victory Sunday.
Kolb said he's fine with that thinking.
"I know I didn't play well that first half," Kolb said, referring to his first-half outing against Green Bay before he left with a concussion. "We didn't play well. Mike's done a great job. I'm really proud of him, the way he came in and ... led us to the victory yesterday. ... All I can do is handle what's on the field and that's me getting out there."
Eagles coach Andy Reid has steadfastly said that Kolb is still his No. 1 quarterback. Following the Eagles' 35-32 win over Detroit, Vick said that the team was still "Kevin's."
"I appreciate it, but I got to prove it, too," Kolb said. "That's the competitive nature of everybody. ... Andy's loyal to everybody and he's a trustworthy guy. He does what's right for the team always. And I appreciate the words that Mike has said."
At the time he said those exact words, Vick was walking outside the NovaCare Complex office where Kolb was giving an interview to a handful of reporters. (He didn't get out of his seat and give Vick a big hug, in case you were wondering.)
"Listen, I know I'm in the business where I can't please everybody," Reid said. "I know that. That's not what I'm here to do. I'm here to make he decision that it right for the team. I will tell you that I think it's a beautiful situation. I look at it a lot different than other people. I got two quarterbacks that can play."
Kolb said that the quarterback controversy that has sprung from the first two games and that has occupied the city and talk radio has not affected him nor the Eagles.
"It's different when you're in-house," Kolb said.
However, asked if the first game was about as bad as he could have expected, Kolb laughed and said, "It wasn't exactly how I planned it out and played it in my head. But I'm big believer in things happen for a reason. The thing in this sport is you go through highs and lows."
Kolb once again said that he had no problem with Vick coming in under center for the occasional change-of-pace play.
"I don't think Mike's packages affect us at all," Kolb said.
Kolb was cleared Friday to return to practice and will start Sunday at Jacksonville, Reid said. Kolb said he started feeling better on Wednesday. The Eagles decided, however, to hold the quarterback out.
Kolb said that "memory wasn't a big issue" after the concussion. He said that he didn't have a lot of symptoms of a concussion when he originally came out. But when he was inserted for the Eagles next offensive series he said he forgot the snap count a couple of times.
He said his teammates then told Eagles head trainer Rick Bukholder that something was wrong.
But what about before the concussion, what was wrong with the offense and his effectiveness?
"I could have made it a little easier. I wasn't going through my reads thoroughly," Kolb said. "We just made a lot of mistakes across the board."
Kolb said that he watched Sunday's game from his Cherry Hill home with his family.

Kolb says he's ready. The Big Redhead says he's ready. He's been carrying a clipboard on the sidleines for three yrs. He's getting paid to be the starting QB. HE SHOULD BE READY AND THEN SOME!!!! LET HIM LOOSE! Marchmadness
Kolb is a fraud...The whole world, and his team knows it. Only if the Eagles stop trying to prove they didn't make one of the worst trades ever, we'll be a better team. Eaglesfan804- I have nothing against Kolb, but you cannot keep using the excuses to keep him in his job! This is about trying to win a game and not to satisify agendas. If they guy does not play well yank him and keep Vick as the starter.

exactly marchmadness. it gets even worse. big red has been scouting him since HS. knows someone whos on kk's dad's coaching staff. You mean to tell me that some of reids plays didn't make it into houston's playbook. 9yrs to scout the kid and still got it wrong. he'll never give up on kk. at our expense. sikofit
I just dont understand you people......I fully admit Vick could probably take us to 11-5 and 1st or 2nd round of playoffs.....but who cares....that is what the last 11 years have been. Vick will only take you so far, but Kolb COULD have the potential to be a great QB. Aikman went 0-15 in his first season as a STARTER!!!! 6-10 or 7-9 with Kolb while growing and giving the future a chance is what needs to be done. Anymore wins is gravy fpuglisi3910- This is definitely a racial issue. The black posters here can't stand whites nor white athletes. Yet they cry racism. Here's one for you: Based on their own pretzel logic, Dom Brown is washed up and will never amount to anything in MLB. Why? He has not performed well in limited play (0.216 BA), and he is already hurt. Right? Wrong. We know as much about Kolb's future as we do Brown's. Deal with it.
