Eagles losing leverage with Kolb?

POSTED: Tuesday, July 26, 2011, 12:54 PM

Which trade would you most like to see?
For the Eagles, a cornerback
For the Phillies, a righthanded bat
For the Sixers, a big-time scorer
For the Flyers ... no more trades, please

Kevin Kolb is still an Eagle.

Many expected the Eagles to deal their backup quarterback once 10 a.m. Tuesday rolled around, but the Kolb trade situation remains very fluid and could stretch into tomorrow, an NFL source said.

The Cardinals are still the leading candidates to land the 26-year-old, but it remains to be seen if they can partner up with the Eagles and make a deal. The Eagles might have lost significant leverage after it was reported that the Seattle had acquired free agent quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. A deal cannot be officially announced until Friday.

Earlier in the day, a league source said not to "sleep on Seattle" in reference to the team's interest in Kolb. Other sources intimated that the Seahawks were never really players for Kolb. They signed Jackson to to start, so the market for Kolb just shrunk considerably.

Arizona was apparently set to trade cornerback Domininque Rodgers-Cromartie for Kolb straight up, but the Eagles are reportedly also in search of a first-round draft pick, according to NFL Network. Still, the Cardinals are the likely landing spot, the Eagles just may not get as much in return as they hoped.

Or maybe Kolb stays with the Eagles.

"I wouldn't be surprised at all," Eagles quarterback Michael Vick said. "To have him here is obviously an asset to this team. ... However it plays out we'll have him."

It seems unlikely that the Eagles would pull the rug from out under Kolb and not trade him. It'll be interesting to see if they require Kolb to report for training camp tomorrow if he's still under contract. But all signs still point to a deal at some point.

    A) I don't see anyplace where it said "Seattel"
    B) Get a life! Seriously! Some people have nothing better to do with their time than to wait for a spelling or grammar mistake and then jump on it...So silly!

Joe "Nickels" Banner doesn't want to take on the salary of a first-round pick. How about a 2nd rounder and three 6th-rounders in 2013?

Uh, guys...a first round pick isn't going to make as much now as he used to. And the salary floor is almost as high as the salary cap. All the "Nickels" jokes are even more wrong now than they used to be. Which is saying something.

I bet they were offered DRC and a round 2 pick for Kolb, but the Eagles want a 7 next year too. They love those 7th rounders.

The Eagles don't have much luck with first round draft picks. Better to get a proven player like Cromartie than pick another first round bust.

maybe you guys should start reporting this when it happens. Didn't McLane have McNabb going to the Rams a few years ago.

IF Seattle is interested in Kolb, that means the Eagles don't want DRC OR they plan to sign Asomugha and take a 1st and 3rd from Seattle!

IF Seattle is interested in Kolb, that means the Eagles don't want DRC OR they plan to sign Asomugha and take a 1st and 3rd from Seattle! BUT it really sounds like the birds are using Seattle as leverage to get AZ to throw in a draft pick with DRC!

It will be good to rid ourselves of Kolb because he is a Bush-loving Texas right wing Republican. I can't root for that type of despicable human being on my team at QB.

They're going to get stuck with him a he will end up another wasted draft pick when he leaves next year for nothing.

first, good luck to SEattle with Tavaris..second, i think it would be funny to see them blow this thing and keep Kolb. Would Kolb finally lose it and go off on Andy, or even though would he not say a bad thing about him? if they trade Kolb, Vick will go down..if they keep Kolb, Vick stays healthy the entire season..its the eagles luck

Actually, the exact opposite. The Cards/Seahawks are pitted against each other in the trade. If Seattle offers a 1 and 3, take it. Then they can sign Namdi or any other higher price free agent. I don't want DRC, he can't tackle, we already got Samuel.

"We need to forget about the nonsense and negativity. That's how it's supposed to be done. That's what the great teams do." Orakpo

Haynesworth was charged in two separate incidents this offseason. He settled out of court in a road-rage incident and also was accused of fondling a waitress at a hotel bar in Washington.

Trade him or not. Doesn't matter because it doesn't affect the team's chances this year. Free Agency is what matters.

Tavaris Jackson is TERRIBLE, but so is Kolb, so that would've been a wash for Seattle. I still think if the Eagles can get the equivalent of a 1st round pick - current player such as DRC or an actual pick in 2012 - it is an absolute gift.

DRC for Kolb? Nah, Let's shoot for Cards' 2012 1st and 2nd rounders, sign Jonathan Joseph, Ray Edwards, Billy Volek, Brian Westbrook, and Nick Barnett. When Fat Albert finally gets released by Washington, grab him for Washburn. Babin can join in this Superbowl party if his demands aren't crazy.

Why would the Cardinals give up a first rounder for Kolb? He hasn't done anything in his limited action to show that he is worth a first round pick and seemed to regress last year. The first game against Green Bay, he seemed totally out of his element.

Typical Eagles, waaaay over valuing their players and under estimating others players. Trade Kolb for DRC strait up and move on

Kolb will end up in Arizona because Fitzgerald has lobbied for him from day one. Larry is on the last year of his contract and if the Cards want to retain him they must get a quality QB to throw to him. Worst case could be Kolb remains an Eagle and then Larry becomes a FA and Eagles sign him. I can dream can't I?

First round pick and a starter or nothing. He is very valuable to us as a backup this year.
