Kolb meets AZ press, cracks Philly joke

POSTED: Friday, July 29, 2011, 3:36 PM

Kevin Kolb met with reporters in Arizona today and told them he knows he has to prove himself.

“I have a lot to prove on that end — there’s no doubt there’s some sort of risk there. There’s risk in anything you do,” Kolb said according to the Web site ProFootballTalk.com. “I look forward to putting in plenty of work to make sure it happens. Nobody is going to out-work me.”

UPDATE: Video of the Kolb press conference is here, via NFL.com.

He added, "there was a lot of pressure in every situation I’ve been thrown in so far, so it’s nothing new for me. I look forward to the challenge, I look forward to answering a lot of the critics."

He told the press there he hopes to emulate former Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner, who took the team to its only Super Bowl appearance.

Kolb also took a playful shot at Philly, telling reporters that he was impressed with the Cardinals and Arizona when the Eagles played there in NFC title game in 2009. One thing he enjoyed was how clean the area was.

"Granted, I was coming from Philadelphia," Kolb said, according to a tweet from Arizona Republic reporter Kent Somers. Somers later added that Kolb had a big smile on his face and said good things about the Eagles and coach Andy Reid.

UPDATE: "He's someone I’ll respect for the rest of my life," Kolb said of Reid. "He taught me how to be a professional NFL quarterback, I’ll never be able to thank him enough."

Kolb added, "he did what's best for me."

His last conversation with the Eagles coach, he said, was "short and sweet, as usual with Andy."

Also per Somers' Twitter feed: Kolb said throwing with Larry Fitzgerald in the offseason felt like a tryout, and of his new situation added: "You know when something feels right, and this feels right."

fman727--- You already know what's going to happen. Eagles will have more TD's on defense the AZ does on offence and everyone's gonna say well he's still trying to learn a new system. WRONG. Andy has the scoop on all his former players, and Brett Farve was his best example. If he can own Brett Farve, he can own Kevin Kolb anyday.

This guy is such a joke. The people calling Kolb a class act are complete fools. His trade situation was public because he was such a great guy. He wanted out of for the same reasons Wise Owl states. Too many black fans in this city. Team is too busy trying to impress just us. GTFOH! Vick is hands down a better choice and will always be. Kolb will stink it up in AZ ala the great AJ Feely. Vick will prosper winning multiple rings and Andy Reid will have the last laugh over all you dopes.

BTW Brooks, check your latest census, Philly jumped back ahead of Phoenix as the fifth largest city. That being said, if McNabb hadmade a moronic statement like Kollb did, it would be front page news. But here the reporter goes out of his way to make excuses for him. The guy won two friggin games here and he's treated like an All Pro. Good riddance!

Gotta love it when there's a million things to love about Philadelphia, and Kolb, who I'm sure lived in New Jersey anyway, chooses to focus on such a small thing. True or not, it's just a tired cliche and a cheap shot at a great city.

It'll be interesting. I think Kolb will struggle a lot against the best defenses. Otherwise he should do well. Not a Kurt Warner in any way.

Kevin Kolb got jokes huh? That is okay simply because he won't have too much a a professional career since the Arizona's Cardinals Offensive Line can't stop anyone. His backup needs to get ready to play soon as Kolb will be gone by mid season faking concusion injuries!

KK gets the last shot in I love it. KK got about 12.5 million from the Eagles and now he gets a 64 million contract 21 million guaranteed from the Cards. KK started seven games for the Eagles, do the math. At the same time you have one of the top receivers in the league making 500k this year. So I ask you, who fleeced who in the end? I'll answer that, it was KK who fleeced the Eagles.

Phoenix is the 6th largest city in the country by population, Philadelphia is the 5th largest. I think it was a dumb comment for him to make, instead of staying on the high road. Hopefully he plays as poorly as he thinks when we see him on November 13.

Kevin Kolb is probably one of the classiest players to come through here in a loooong time given his situation. The fact people want to trash him speaks volume about some o the folks in this city. And yes...Philly is disgustingly filthy. Fact

I'm from Philly and it is pretty dirty I must say. I'm astounded whenever I go back there how much trash and pollution there is everywhere. The snow doesn't help either. Phoenix has no culture but it is damn nice in Decemeber and the views are spectacular.

I still can't believe anyone wanted the very average QB. Well now Arizona is stuck with him and we have two QBs who are vary good at running the QB draw and not much else. Should be an interestting season. Oh and Girth, Philly is the 5th largest city, Phoenix is sixth.

@dreener: Don't waste too much brainpower on the "hate" factor. Most of these commenters are just putting up a front and saying negative things for the glory of their 2 seconds of so-called commentary fame. It's all to just get a rise out of others. Ever notice how some of these simpletons rank their worth on how many comments they make? Idiotic talk from idiot minds - you can always count on that! And I agree with you about Kolb - the guy should be applauded for his professionalism and how he never was a disruptive force. He's gone through the roller coaster of being a backup for 4 years here in Philly and one of the first things you hear from him is his appreciation for his now ex-coach.

I don't get the hate. He sat and waited for his turn as a starter without complaining. Got exactly one half as a number 1 before having his face smashed in because NOBODY COULD BLOCK Clay Matthews. Was lied to. Still kept his mouth shut and didn't cause problems.
    I hope he does well.

Kolb handled imself very well in Philly and wasn't a baby like so many others are when they don't get what they want...Now he is "the guy" in the cultureless, god-forsaken, parched landscape of Arizona. If you make a joke about Philly, we are now secure enough to handle it. Remember, this THE place to come for baseball and has been a great landing spot for hockey and football for years. Dirty...compared to what? Don't worry about it...we're cool!!

Really? Phoenix is a bigger city than Philly now? Wow, that's really funny. I always thought that the number 1,526,006 is bigger than the number 1,445,632. I guess I was wrong. Oh wait; i've checked. 1,526,006 is indeed a bigger number than 1,445,632. So Philly is bigger than Phoenix... you just don't know what you're talking about. Also Phoenix despite only being less than 100,000 people smaller than philly is not a big city like philly is. Have you ever been to phoenix? It's an overgrown suburb. The city is almost 5 times larger geographically than philly is still has less people. If philly expanded to the size of phoenix the population of philly would be almost 5 million. the two cities are not even comparable. Philly is a world class urban center. Phoenix is a sterile culturless suburb.

    5th Philadelphia Pennsylvania 1,526,006
    6th Phoenix Arizona 1,445,632

Oak did not say Arizona was a city - he said Arizona was cleaner than Philly - that's all.

Quarterback rating last 4 games - 85.5. Lost a play-off game by throwing a bad interception with time left. Lost last two key games. Missed games due to injury. This isn't being a hater, it's being concerned. Which Vick will show up, the incredible player, or the one who played poorly and was figured out by good teams? Nobody knows if Vick will be better than Kolb this year. Not me, not you. You emotions are overriding your logic, assuming you are capable of logic.
