King Dunlap arrested in Nashville
Jonathan Tamari
Eagles tackle King Dunlap was arrested in Nashville Friday and charged with reckless driving and disorderly conduct. Police said he drove his Cadillac Escalade onto the sidewalk outside Bridgestone Arena and refused to move when ordered to by police.
Dunlap, 25, a Nashville native, parked his SUV on the sidewalk/plaza area near the front doors of the arena, which is hosting the SEC women's basketball tournament, at 5:15 p.m. Dunlap told police he was there to pick up his father, who is confined to a wheelchair, according to a release from the Nashville Metro police department. Officers told Dunlap drivers were not permitted onto the sidewalk/plaza and directed him to another area where they said he could pick up his father. Dunlap refused to move and after being given a final warning was arrested, according to police.
He was cooperative after he was placed into custody, police said.
Dunlap's bond was set at $1,000. His agent could not immediately be reached for comment.
Lock this bonehead up and have his Brother Vick join him. A bunch of jail birds on the team. New name for the team. Philadelphia Jail Birds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MRD
They should've just wrote him a ticket. p-diddy
Needs to get aggressive on the football field and learn to cooperate w/police. seems he's got it backwards shabokey1
Power trip? Pretty sure you can't park where you want, and then refuse to move your vehicle to the COPS! phigglesfan75

I bet if King was a middle aged caucasian sales manager named Bill, this would not have been a problem for Sheriff Roscoe P Coltrane in Nashville. I'm just guessing. FairmountFrank
If everyone decided for themselves which laws they were going to follow or not, and police decided for themselves which laws they were going to enforce or not, we would have a society in chaos. Why bother making laws at all then? That's the worldview anarchists take. Your problem, whether you realize it, is with the law. You feel people should be able to park on sidewalks if they decide there is a good reason for it. Then you blame the police for enforcing a law you don't agree with. The police shouldn't have a right to decide which laws to enforce or not enforce, it's their job to enforce the laws that are written. That's why they call their job "Law Enforcement", not "Law Interpretation". mish798798
The police are punks, everyone knows that. That's why you can't expect them to make exceptions to the rules on the basis of common sense or morals, because a high percentage of them are too stupid and haven't received enough proper education to have any of those traits in the first place. They have to be bound by the law and the rules to get anything right, and I wouldn't trust them to have the right to anything except to blindly follow rules. The best thing you could do is to steer clear of these low-lifes in uniforms and not have anything to do with them. I don't know what kind of a person Dunlap is, but the best thing you can do to protect yourself against cops is to just let him have his way and move on. goeagles87
who cares he should not even be on the team anyway. kingfish872
The illegal parking isn't why they arrested him. It's because he refused to move. In a sense, that's saying I'll make up my own traffic laws even if you're right in front of me. Dunlap obviously had to handle it better. The police probably could have done it differently too. armchairGM
Unfortunately Roger Goddell has denied Dunlap's request to use the Escalade on the field next season, unless of course he is facing James Harrison. Young Baller
Even worse is that his father went right around the Escalade and sacked Michael Vick. Young Baller
When reached for comment, Andy Reid said "Now he decides to block something?!?" Young Baller
It sounds like he parks as well as he pass blocks. Young Baller
I have a physically disabled sister and a mother with dementia. So when I needed to take some accommodations for getting them into my graduation at Drexel last year we did pull up onto the sidewalk and tie up traffic for a moment. Did I mention that my mother also has a nerve problem in her leg that prevents her from walking more than 100 yards without pain.
So yeah...I pulled up on the sidewalk and made people wait and got yelled at by public safety.
And for my family's comfort and joy in seeing me graduate I'd do it again. doctorhim
These stupid cops need to get a life Andrewsgvl

The reckless part is the driving onto the sidewalk. I had to argue that once for parking on a sidewalk on a small street to avoid getting hit and got a ticket for that. I agree they didn't have to give him that at all, but the system is designed to throw as many charges at someone and hope some stick. HandNik
Also, why is this reckless driving? Maybe illegal parking but DRIVING??? I don't think so. Come on. Was that really the charge or did the knucklehead Philly headline writers just make something up to get us to read the article? chucksf
Drbob's point of view is right. Help the father get in the car and then the car is gone. Any other point of view in this case is idiotic and ignorant. jbettner
surprise! another eagle thug. maybe now vick will have a cell mate to keep him company. bill19666
2phillythompson: Actually, I've been a physician for about 25 years, but that's not germane (look it up) to this posting. I agree that under some circumstances, you can arrest someone for doing what Dunlap did. This isn't one of them. The police are supposed to protect and serve. "Everyone with a story" is just a tad cynical for me. In this case, he had a wheelchair bound father; if you saw clips on the news, they showed the father in the chair, in front of the arena. They could have helped Dunlap in a reasonable manner so that his father could get out safely and they could have their precious loading zone back within seconds. They wanted to make a point, because they could. Did they have the legal right to arrest him? Sure they did, but that doesn't make the kid the second coming of Dillinger. drbob1

Of course, if they had just let him pick up his father and leave, the car would have been gone in seconds. This way, they can make money for Nashville by arresting him and his car can sit around in front of the arena until they tow it, making more money for Nashville when King gets it out of impound. drbob1- power trip? pretty sure you cant just park on a sidewalk wherever you want...... MPatt24
Wow, I didn't know you could get arrested for illeagle parking. I guess the police didn't have there ticket books with them. Amazing, what a world we live in. craig123
