Dennis Kelly will start at right tackle in place of Todd Herremans, who will attend the funeral of a family member, when the Eagles face the Browns on Friday in their third preseason game.

Herremans has been excused from traveling with the team, an Eagles spokesman said.

The Eagles are expected to play their first team for a quarter of Friday's game. Michael Vick is not likely to play because of bruised ribs. Rookie Nick Foles will start in his place. Kelly -- also a rookie -- will be responsible for protecting his classmate.

"It's exciting," Kelly said. "Back in camp when Todd got banged up a little bit they gave me the opportunity to work with the [first team]. It gives me a little bit more confidence in that they trust me."

Kelly, a fifth round draft pick out of Purdue, has mostly run with the second team at right tackle since training camp started in late July. The rookie has also played a little at guard.
