Jimmy Smith: too much risk?

Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel has a stunning evaluation today of Colorado's Jimmy Smith, the talented cornerback who many have linked to the Eagles in Thursday's draft.

McGinn talked to 24 personnel people around the league, and while some said he could be as good as Nnamdi Asomugha, 11 of the 24 said they wouldn't take him in the first TWO rounds of the draft, because questions about his character.

We all knew that there were concerns there -- about his attitude and about several off-field incidents, which include three failed drug tests and an arrest on third-degree assault, according to McGinn -- but this was eye-opening.

McGinn raises the name of Pacman Jones, another talented corner who wasn't worth the trouble he caused. We know it only takes one team to decide that a player is worth taking a chance, but this adds to the feeling here that the Eagles won't invest a first round pick in such a risk.
