Jaws on No. 7 to Vick: "No problem"

POSTED: Friday, August 14, 2009, 3:44 PM

It's not a retired number, but the No. 7 has been worn with pride by a handful of Eagles over the organization's 75-year-plus existence. But no one wore it with more prestige than when Ron Jaworski did from 1977-86.

There will be another quarterback donning the No. 7, as of tomorrow's practice. The Eagles introduced the newly-acquired Michael Vick today at a press conference at the NovaCare complex, and even though there were no photo ops of Vick holding up the jersey in front of his chest, coach Andy Reid said the number was the former Atlanta Falcon's.

Jaworski, who isn't in favor of the Vick acquisition from an Xs and Os position, said that he wasn't upset that his old number would be worn by a convicted dog killer.

"I have absolutely no problem with it," Jaws, now an ESPN commentator, told The Inquirer.

There was no word on whether Bobby Hoying (No. 7, 1996-98) was distraught.

Here are the other Eagles to have slipped on the No.7 green:

Jeff Garcia, quarterback, 2006
Sean Landeta, punter, 1999-2002, 2005
Ken O'Brien, quarterback, 1993
John Reaves, quarterback, 1972-75
Roger Ruzek, punter, 1989-93
Jim Ward, quarterback, 1971-72
Roy Zimmerman, back, 1942-46

As always Jaws takes the high road.....it's a disgrace they are letting Vick wear #7.....it goes from a class act to a convict - nice.

Which upsets you more? Michael Vick and dog fighting or Donte Stallworth hitting and killing someone? Now, retrospectively, what did each have to pay for their crimes? Almost 2 years in jail vs. 18 days in jail, respectively. Compare these two people and their crimes, Michael Vick, personally paid for his sins and he deserves a chance to make it right. People have to understand that we're not condoning what Michael Vick did by saying we're for his signing, we're simply saying that he deserves a second chance. Only those PETA SOBs think that this is a capital offense, like Obama killing that fly on television. Get over yourselves and your self-righteous thinking. If Donte Stallworth doesn't spend a month in jail for KILLING SOMEONE, Michael Vick deserves to at least try to re-build his life after what he did.

Garbage. Vick should take another number in deference to Jaworski.

it's just like Amaro said about Pedro over Moyer: It's a business and my job is to put a team on the field that has the best possible chance of winning regardless of personal feelings. That is all the Eagles have done.
