Jackson to Jackson: Stop the nonsense

POSTED: Sunday, September 27, 2009, 5:15 PM

Jamaal Jackson loved DeSean Jackson's 64-yard touchdown reception during the second quarter of the Eagles' 34-14 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs.

He didn't like the head-first-dive-into-a-front-split celebration so much.

"I told him, 'Great run, but let's try to exhibit some professionalism,' " the Eagles' center said. "There's nothing wrong with a little celebration, but once you put your body at risk, that's when you want to take a step back and look at the big picture. There's nothing wrong with just handing the ball to the ref."

Jamaal thinks DeSean might heed his advice, especially because the receiving Jackson also vomitted on the sideline after his celebration.

"I've been trying to talk to these young guys," Jamaal said. "I tell them, 'Hey man, this is our jobs. It isn't some pickup game. I told him that right after he scored. After that, he was on the sideline throwing up. You run that long of a time, you need to save some of your energy. He was hurling. I might seem like the old guy out there, but my position on this team is to try to lead these guys by example."

Eagles coach Andy Reid didn't make a big deal about the celebration, saying simply that it was a good indication to him that Jackson's strained groin was feeling OK.

I seem to recall Gus Freotte jamming his neck celebrating a touchdown against the Giants. While playing for the Redskins, he scored a touchdown then celebrating he put his head into a wall thus injuring himself. Celebrate your touchdown. Just don't be stupid.

Actually, handing the ball to the ref like it's no big deal is one of the most badass moves a player can make. Beats doing a cheerleader move like Jackson did when he did that split.

Adrenaline is pretty high when you score a long run TD in the NFL. Adrenaline that many people here will have never experienced. He'll grow out of it I think. Throwing up is not fun.

Glad to see that almost everyone has bought into the whole "No Fun League" concept.

Desean is the best player on our team hands down..... Now with that said when the great Adrian Peterson was in his last year in college he did a flip into the end zone and wound up tearing his knee up and was out for the year..... Djack act like you have been there before or some freak stuff could get you

It was a GREAT move, and one we're sure to see on Sportscenter all week. That said, the enthusiasm of youth will end up in an injury if it continues. DeSean, you entertain me, but scare me as well.
