Injury list grows: Herremans, Chaney, Atogwe

POSTED: Thursday, August 2, 2012, 5:47 PM

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The injuries continue to pile up at Eagles training camp as a number of players left the afternoon session on a hot August day.

The most significant injury appeared to be a hamstring pull that sent Jamar Chaney into the locker room. The linebacker had just earned a spot up on the first team nickel defense, but now he appears headed to the Eagles' growing injury list.

Chaney will have an MRI, the Eagles said. Rookie Mychal Kendricks, the strong-side starting linebacker, took Chaney's place in the nickel defense.

Tackle Todd Herremans missed all of practice with a right shoulder injury. Rookie Dennis Kelly took his place at right tackle.

Safety O.J. Atogwe left practice early with a right groin injury. Wide receiver Jamel Hamler left with a right hamstring injury. Running back LeSean McCoy and safety Nate Allen left practice early with cramps.

The Eagles were already down several players, especially on the defensive line. Defensive ends Jason Babin (calf) and Trent Cole (shoulder) are out, as are defensive tackles Cullen Jenkins (hamstring) and Mike Patterson (brain surgery). Tight end Brent Celek (knee) appears to be close to returning, however.

The Eagles did work out a defensive end today -- Morkeith Brown from Temple.

There was a live hitting session scheduled for the end of practice, but coach Andy Reid must have decided to ease off his players in light of the injuries.

Wow negativity here! No one was carted off the field, everyone made it in there under there own two legs. Why even mention the cramps anyways?? It is hot out and they got cramps get an iv in them and they will be golden tomorrow. Plus we haven't even started preseason games yet.

Folks, don't get worried when guys get MRIs. The Eagles almost always do an MRI as a precaution. It doesn't necessarily mean it's a serious injury. This is all normal for training camp. The guys are trying to get into football shape. Of course they're gonna pull and strain muscles and joints.

I think some of the more established and seasoned vets injuries could be a little suspect. Maybe the heat is more to blame?

No big deal, these are minor injuries. As far as the defensive linemen, we know what they can do so it's no big deal to get them in thereand risk a real injury. Move on folks, nothing to see here !!!

What is with Andy Reid trying to kill all his players before the season even starts. He has to know these guys are not near ready to perform in this heat. You can't spend the winter sitting around doing nothing than get hit with 3 weeks of vigorous training and expect to keep these players healthy.

Andy "MRI" Reid strikes again. Actual smart coaches of which make upa fair amount of the head in the league actually know how to adapt, and are going slightly easier with these rule changes to prevent injuries. Multiple-superbowl-winning Andy however continues to grind his players to the ground in training camp just like he continues to call pass plays that arent working deep into the 4th quarter every game. If you cant adapt you will become extinct. Bellichek vs Andy, Andy loses again. 0-5 lifetime. Bellichek adapts to new rule changes and drafts two talented TE's to great effect. Bellichek sees the other coaches strategy and makes the proper adjustments in-game to run the ball more, or play a different defense type. Andy does the same thing everytime and thus loses 14 times in a row and gets fired. There are some smart coaches in the league, and Andy is not one of them.

Bellichek is vastly over rated as a coach. Yes he won 3 superbowls, squeeking by winning each game by only 3 points even though he knew the opposing teams play before the opposing quarterback. His amazing half time adjustments were simply the fact that they could read the other teams signals better. After he was caught cheating, he has not won a superbowl since. Coincidence? It is more than just a 3 point advantage if you know exactly what play the opposing team is running. Fact is his wins should have an asterisk, but why the amnesia about his cheating?

and no, its not going to be a "good year" unless you like blown leads, poor defense, and dumb decision making as the hallmarks of your team.

Hey Charlie, Bellichek hasn't won a damn thing since they stopped his team from cheating during the games.
