GREG LEWIS TRADED TO PATRIOTS; SAFETY SEAN JONES VISITING TOMORROW
Bob Brookover
New England coach Bill Belichick always liked Greg Lewis and now the veteran Eagles receiver is working for the Patriots.
The Eagles officially announced that Lewis was dealt for an undisclosed pick in next month's draft and that the Patriots would also get an undisclosed pick in the 2010 draft. A team source said the Eagles' selection is a fifth-rounder and the Patriots will receive a seventh-rounder.
The team also announced that safety Sean Jones will visit the NovaCare Complex tomorrow. Given the Eagles' need at the position, it wouldn't be surprising if they signed Jones, who was a starter the last three seasons with the Cleveland Browns.
Brown, who played strong safety with the Browns, has 14 interceptions the last three seasons, including four last year when he was limited to 12 games because of arthroscopic knee surgery. Brown, who turned 27 Monday, started 16 games in 2006 and 2007 for Cleveland and had five interceptions each year. The recently departed Brian Dawkins only has six interceptions in the last three seasons with the Eagles.
It's no secret that Belichick has always liked Lewis a lot more than the average Eagles fan, and it's easy to figure out why. Lewis has eight career touchdowns and three of them have come against the Patriots. Lewis had four catches for 53 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles' 2005 Super Bowl loss to New England and four catches for 88 yards and two touchdowns in a loss at New England in 2007.
Those were not typical games for G. Lewis, who averaged just over one catch for 19 yards during his 99 games in an Eagles uniform. Lewis, who made the team as an undrafted free agent in 2003, spent the 2005 as a starter, but he had just one touchdown catch that year.
The Eagles will have at least a dozen draft picks next month, including four in the fifth round. They already had 10 picks before trading Lewis and cornerback Lito Sheppard for fifth-round selections.

as long as reggie rbown isn't playing next year, we'll be better. dreinterests
Lewis has always sucked, never played to his potential. If he goes to NE and plays well it isnt because of McNabb. If anything its a fluke, or because Lewis didnt want to be an Eagle. Will.i.Am
Now that a real QB is throwing the ball and a real coach already knows what type of position to put the player in to be successful, Lewis will look like an all pro. Voytas
