Eagles' 53-man roster prediction -- Friday a.m.
Zach Berman, Inquirer Staff Writer
After training camp and preseason, here is my prediction for the 53, if the Eagles keep only players on the current roster. However, don't be surprised if by trades or by signings, the Eagles at least two players from outside the organization by Monday's practice.
Of course, these are just guesses. The final five spots on the roster are difficult to predict. Include your roster predictions below:
QB (3): Michael Vick, Nick Foles, Trent Edwards
RB/FB (5): LeSean McCoy, Dion Lewis, Bryce Brown, Chris Polk, Stanley Havili
WR (5): DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant, Riley Cooper, Damaris Johnson
TE (2): Brent Celek, Clay Harbor
OL (9): King Dunlap, Evan Mathis, Jason Kelce, Danny Watkins, Todd Herremans, Demetress Bell, Dennis Kelly, Julian Vandervelde, Steve Vallos
DL (10):Trent Cole, Cullen Jenkins, Derek Landri, Jason Babin, Phillip Hunt, Darryl Tapp, Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry, Fletcher Cox, Cedric Thornton
LB (6): DeMeco Ryans, Akeem Jordan, Mychael Kendricks, Jamar Chaney, Brian Rolle, Casey Matthews
CB (6): Nnamdi Asomugha, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Joselio Hanson, Brandon Boykin, Curtis Marsh, Brandon Hughes
S (4): Nate Allen, Kurt Coleman, O.J. Atogwe, Jaiquawn Jarrett
ST (3): Alex Henery, Chas Henry, Jon Dorenbas
***
PUP: Colt Anderson
NFI: Jason Peters, Mike Patterson
Notes
-I don't have Antonio Dixon on here. I think he could be cut or tranded. And he might be better for it, because he can play more elsewhere than he would in Philadelphia. He's a good player who's caught in a numbers crunch.
- Pay attention to Demetress Bell and O.J. Atogwe. Bell didn't play well enough and Atogwe didn't play enough to be considered locks.
- I think the Eagles look elsewhere for safety, and possibly at fullback and linebacker. They need to upgrade at backup safety, because Atogwe's injuries could potentially linger this season. At fullback, I'm not convinced Havili won the the job over Emil Igweneagu, and I think the Eagles could pounce on a player they like if he becames available. I'm not convinced Brian Rolle is a lock if they find someone who can help more on special teams.
- I have the Eagles keeping four running backs, because I think one is a valuable trade piece. I have the Eagles only keeping five wide receivers, too, although if they keep a sixth, don't be surprised if it's Mardy Gilyard over Marvin McNutt or Chad Hall.
- I'm not entirely sold Vallos makes the roster because he's a vested veteran. That could be a money decision, and they could go with a younger interior lineman such as Dallas Reynolds.
- Finally, No. 3 quarterback. I'm not convinced that they cut Mike Kafka, but I think it'll be hard to justify keeping him over Trent Edwards. That could go either way.
Uh, so they're cutting Nick Foles? FadeRoute.com- Can I get a proofreading credit on this?

Foles is on the list, dude. Paul SoTX- uhhh, yeah. He is NOW because I spotted it and gave Zach "Ben Bermanke" Berman the heads-up.

It is apparent that S is the weakest position with experience on the O-line next. That's where I see the Eagles making waiver pickups or trades. JBP
cut Kafka.....he cant make deep throw
SkipinWV- LB Greg Jones a camp casualty in New York. Roseman better have already put that call out. Regardless of whatever the reasons he got cut, the Eagles aren't exactly in position to turn their noses up at a linebacker of his pedigree: former 2x consensus All-American at MSU, Big Ten Player of the Year, even the opened last year as the Giants' starting MLB. You can't tell me he wouldn't warrant a roster spot over someone like Jamar Chaney
No way they are only going to keep 5 WRs with one of them being Riley Cooper. Bama
i bet they dont keep Havili or Vallos or Jarrett. Instead they trade or pick up a safety and tight end off waivers....and go without a true fullback. On the rare occasions they want a "fullback" they will use Polk, Brown, or an extra tight end. I hope they also add a redzone receiver instead of adding Hall or Gilyard. Regardless this team is gonna be good. murdock101
I think they keep Kafka, though it is clearly in their best interest to keep Trent Edwards instead. bwillie
I like this prediction better than others I've seen on this site because I'd like to see Polk and Edwards make this team. BeFrank
Alot of people are predicting Havili wont make it.. Havili has played very well on special teams in pre season and I think he's definetly made it due to that alone. Havili has only played sparingly on offense and had one nice run. Dont underestimate him, he broke alot of long inside runs at USC and he can play. bradco
Only the criminal and corrupt Republican Party is going to put more people out of work today than the NFL. eldiablodelsol2009
There's two ways to look at 3rd QB. Edwards played well and has starting experience, so he could help teach Foles. Kafka barely played but he knows this offense and he was supposed to be our back up. I go with Kafka because we've invested a pick in him. Plus, if my 3rd QB is in, I just want Andy and Marty trying to throw the ball all day. Last resort QB should be a game manager colahead420
SURPRISE, SURPRISE. HOW ABOUT JOSELIO HANSON NOT MAKING THE FINAL CUT. bedpan
