Ex-Eagle Stallworth gets jail time

POSTED: Tuesday, June 16, 2009, 12:24 PM

Former Eagle and current Cleveland Browns wide receiver Donte’ Stallworth will serve 30 days in jail after pleading guilty in Florida to a DUI manslaughter charge, The Associated Press reported today.
The plea deal calls for the 28-year-old Stallworth to also serve 10 years’ probation and do 1,000 community service hours for killing a pedestrian he hit with his car. Stallworth had faced up to 15 years in prison.
Police say Stallworth was drinking at a hotel bar before the March 14 crash that killed 59-year-old construction worker Mario Reyes. Tests showed Stallworth’s blood-alcohol content was .126.
Stallworth also reached a confidential financial settlement with the Reyes’ family. A person close to the negotiations told The Association Press about the agreement on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the deal.

Comparing Stallworth to Vick or M.Stewart is wrong just for the fact that D.S owned up to his mistake, both Vick and Stewart lied about there wrong doings and admited they broke the law.i also understand that Stallworth has to donate money to M.A.D and other inti DUI groups, the only other thing I would like to see is him doing honst public service spot for M.A.D who know may he will as part of his community service. As for Vick he glamorized the killing of mans best friend for fun and profit knowing all along he was brakeing the law and even bought property to enable his criminal activites.

Millionaires walk. Simple. As others note, any of us would be in jail for years. The remaining family member made a million I'm sure just like the two families Ray Lewis paid off in Miami to cover up murder.

Really Chuckle? Both were wrong. I mean how can you compare jaywalking to DRUNK DRIVING. Hey , they were both wrong, one irresponsibly got drunk and then took his life, and everyone else's on the road, for granted as he got behind the wheel of a car. The other irresponsibly...crossed...the...road. Bottom line, if Donte wasn't drunk he wouldn't have hit that man, or even been out on the road at 7:15am. If it was you or me we would be in jail. They family took money from Donte, that's their business, but he should be in jail, or a whole lot of other people should be let out.

It's amazing what some cash and an attorney can buy. Manslaughter now carries only a 30 day sentence. Two years "house arrest" but can travel the country playing football. Lifetime suspension of his drivers license, BUT can get it back in five years. AND in the wonderful world of pro sports he will be on the field in no time making millions again. WTF is wrong with this world? It's called rationalization, just ask Chuckle Berry. No cash, no fancy attorney equals 15 years and two lines in the Metro section. THAT’S WHAT IT SHOULD BE!!

And then look how quiet the story was for Stallworth as compared to Vick? I guess we value dogs MORE THAN people nowadays! SHEESH! What a country!

yea who are these people calculating a .126 BAC, for someone his size it really isn't a very high BAC. Saying that he weighs 180-190 its probably more like 5 0r 6 drinks an hour, or 7 or 8 over a few hours. I was arrested for DUI with .129 and to be honest all people react differently to alcohol but I was able to pass all of the field sobriety tests and failed the breathalizer so although this is a mistake both parties were in the wrong and it is not entirely irrational to say that this may have happened if he were under the legal limit or not intoxicated at all. Wrong place, wrong time.

You people need to use common sense...A pilot gets drunk and runs into a building, and kills hundreds vs. a man killing dogs for the fun of it. One is obviously a bigger tragedy than the other, but the latter was done with intent, which means the person is deranged. As long as we allow alchohol to exist (impossible not to), there's going to be horrible side effects. Truth is, most drunk drivers are so impaired that they don't even realize they are too drunk to drive. You know what beer muscles are...think they can take on anything. So there was no intent by Donte to kill a man, and on top of that, the reason you aren't allowed to walk on a highway is because it significantly increases your chances of getting run over by even a sober person. If this person would have been on a sidewalk, or in their car, the outcome would have been tottally different. This guy may have been drunk and stumbling himself...no one knows, but everyone judges like they do.
