The Eagles will pick up the $1.5 million roster bonus that was due to Michael Vick by Tuesday, according to team sources.
This does not mean that the quarterback will definitely be back for next season, nor does it mean that the Eagles are on the hook for the rest of the $3.75 million he would make next season. Right now it means that Vick will not be released.
A message left with Vick's agent, Joel Segal, was not immediately returned.
If the Eagles are hoping to trade Vick picking up the option could give them some leverage in negotiations with interested teams. There have been reports that the Eagles would want nothing less than a second-round pick in return. It seems feasible that they could get a fourth- or fifth-round pick for the quarterback. They could also use Vick in a player-for-player deal.
Buffalo and St. Louis have been targeted as the least likely teams to want Vick. The Rams, however, signed former Eagles quarterback A.J. Feeley to a two-year contract on Friday. Vick has been very public about wanting to start. He was the third stringer last season for the Eagles and was primarily used in the Eagles' Wildcat or spread option formations.
He went on an Atlanta radio station last week and said that if he were to play for another team his first choice would be to play for the Panthers. Carolina released long-time quarterback Jake Delhomme on Friday, but it appears as if the Panthers will give the job to backup Matt Moore.
Head coach Andy Reid went on 97.5 The Fanatic on Friday and reiterated that Donovan McNabb was his starting quarterback for next season. He also said that there was a "pretty good" chance that all three of his quarterbacks -- McNabb, Vick and Kevin Kolb -- would be back for next season. That seems unlikely considering that Vick would cost the Eagles $5.6 million.
In other news, the Eagles will likely be the next stop for free agent Marlin Jackson, according to league sources. The Colts cornerback is scheduled to visit with the Ravens on Tuesday. Jackson's season was cut short last year when he tore his ACL. The year before he tore the ACL in his other knee.
Here's our earlier post about defensive end Aaron Kampman signing with the Jaguars.
I hope so they can trade him!We need some 'D'on this team not the carnival that is mike vick! SHIP him outta here already! socalbirdsfan
For the life of me, I can't figure out what the intentions are of these guys this off-season. It seems like they keep doing the complete opposite of what they should be doing. They have not one one thing to improve this team yet. Oh yea, "I'm happy with what we've got."..."We've got the best roster in the league". Now it makes sense. dixie1
Do the Eagles only have interest in players coming off ACL surgery? Stacy Andrews, Kampman, now Jackson. Maybe you can get them for cheaper, but they never perform to their norm the first year. FlaJim- Ron Mexico will be taking his dog show to Carolina probably. Corey301

Now what? Does this mean Eagles dump KKK? This organization does not want to win. 4-12 at best this season. When are needs really going to be addressed? What about the LB, OL, DE and safety positions that really need tightened up? 1.5 mil for a player who may or may not see the field? philadelphiachild51
The management and Reid continue to be at odds as to McNabb, and while the key, free-agent choices go elsewhere, they are bottom-feeding, as usual. How the fans react in 2010, might bring some much needed change. humanist- Dog Killa back with the team. Oh happy days.
dixie1 You talkin about the eagles or our government.lol Jerseyrebel

Doctor Andy at it again. Drafting players with ACl issues, (Jack I, Cornelius Ingram) signing free agent ACL players, playing Westbrook with a concussion when outside medical people said he should sit longer. Having McNabb pass like 45 times with broken ribs. Wait until Jamal Jackson comes to camp limping. Andy will tell all he's fine. He's a regular medicine man. watsonmr- Eagles management stinks If Lurie doesn't stop this nonsense, he deserves all the vilification he will get. What a joke richsal

philadelphiachild51, since when is Kolb a white supremacist? bboybeballin
Let's see...DoggyKiller gets a $1.5M roster bonus after doing virtually nothing last year. If the Eagles keep him, he'll make a cool $5.8M overall this year. Dawk, after 13 years of outstanding service and still a pro-bowler, asked for an extra $3M over 2 seasons and was shown the door. That makes perfect sense, epsecially with the ridiculously good tandem of Macho Harris and Sean Jones waiting in the wings. The Eagles organization is a complete laughingstock. Dean1
Whatever the wasted draft pick may be, he for certain is a guy who cannot beat out Vick for the #2 position. And he will never beat out the guy holding the #1 position. And I really do wish the Eagles would stop chasing players coming off of injury. DW4
The only laughingstock people are the fans who think they write better than the sportswriters, coach better than AR and are better administrators than the people who own and run the team. You're all a bunch of losers who don't appreciate what you have. ceocreates
Ha Ha Ha. Go Eagles!!!!!!!!! Andy will get us some players. Big Ben will be coming if he can live in a sorority house at U of P. tommy_the_k
anywhere vick lands, becomes"losertown." If they take the leash off vick(no pun intended), he will be the thug vick of old days...HIS PR folks(segal etc.), have kept him out of trouble.... he has neither the discipline nor intelligence to be a quality person or QB. genevalove
I did read somewhere recently where the Eagles said Vick has value! That could be true because remember the old saying"One man's garbage is another man's treasure!"..So I guess in a garage sale Vick has value if your looking to pick up some garbage cheap! Michael Anthony
Comment removed.- You can't win big games with a scrambling QB. Philly fans who were around for the Randall years should know that better than most. Production from that kind of offense is too inconsistent. Michael Vick stinks. In his heyday, he could win you some games with his legs, but he always looked like a deer in the headlights when he sat in the pocket. I doubt you would get that 2nd rounder the birds are looking for. I hope he is dealt, I've been an Eagles fan for many years and hope to continue to be one. But I can't look myself in the mirror and root for this team again this year if he is on it.
- The "Gold Standard" at work.
Dean1 Spoken as a true fan and the absoult truth. mrgjf45- yea lets bring in a guy with a blown out ACL, and then draft a guy with two blown out knees that cant block anyway, and then when he cant even survive practice who is surprised ?? I Wasnt. do they even have a medical advisor ? every other team stayed away from cornelius ingram but somehow Andy just couldnt help himself. He also just cant help himself from throwing the ball 60%, esp against a tough defense when he really "goes for it all" with an unpredicatble 80% passing attack. hes just gonna keep passing the ball until lurie takes his job away.
Man, you guys are the biggest bunch of crybabies I've ever heard (or I guess read). By the way you all see things, the Eagles haven't won at all in the last ten years. Yeah I guess you're right - the management and Andy Reid must really suck big time. I'm an Eagle fan living in Chicago. Talk about people who deserve to cry. Soldier Field looks like a space ship landed inside it and, as you know the Bears really know how to do it. The Birds haven't won the big one yet but I'll take this franchise over 90% of the rest of the NFL. You guys act like it's so easy to win a Super Bowl. I bet 99% of you couldn't coach a junior high school team. Appreciate what you have for once and stop moaning and crying. It's pathetic. 1983ufgator
ufgator, well put...we haven't won anything, yet these fans act uppity and too good for this team...we're lucky to have McNabb, a different scheme and we'd have our ring, or rings.... Bleue
With the gluttany of defensive line talent, Michael Vick a hot commodity and needing to get precisely what you need....Philly is on point. Peppers is OK and not a long term fix, Kampmann has question marks. Some how, there is a deal being brewed with Vick to yield something good. We all need to face facts, Michael Vick could go to at least, 4 clubs and make the better instantly. Yes, he is rusty and older but he does not have the two years of hits piled up and he is hungry. Some club will look at the lack of quarterback skills in the draft and bite. Patience will yield good results via trade for a solid veteran or high pick for Vick. It will then be up to the Eagles to select wisely. Let's have this thing play out before we draw and quarter Andy Reid. No one is in a hurry to hoist such a large carcass. AJW2009
i thought these comments were supposed to be intelligent. ARAMO
I hope the eagles have a legitimate game plan..I'm confused on what's going on right now. I'm still in shock they have not made any aggressive moves yet. Did they forget about the 3 Loses in a Row to Dallas? Philly_Bully
