Eagles to pick up Vick bonus
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
The Eagles will pick up the $1.5 million roster bonus that was due to Michael Vick by Tuesday, according to team sources.
This does not mean that the quarterback will definitely be back for next season, nor does it mean that the Eagles are on the hook for the rest of the $3.75 million he would make next season. Right now it means that Vick will not be released.
A message left with Vick's agent, Joel Segal, was not immediately returned.
If the Eagles are hoping to trade Vick picking up the option could give them some leverage in negotiations with interested teams. There have been reports that the Eagles would want nothing less than a second-round pick in return. It seems feasible that they could get a fourth- or fifth-round pick for the quarterback. They could also use Vick in a player-for-player deal.
Buffalo and St. Louis have been targeted as the least likely teams to want Vick. The Rams, however, signed former Eagles quarterback A.J. Feeley to a two-year contract on Friday. Vick has been very public about wanting to start. He was the third stringer last season for the Eagles and was primarily used in the Eagles' Wildcat or spread option formations.
He went on an Atlanta radio station last week and said that if he were to play for another team his first choice would be to play for the Panthers. Carolina released long-time quarterback Jake Delhomme on Friday, but it appears as if the Panthers will give the job to backup Matt Moore.
Head coach Andy Reid went on 97.5 The Fanatic on Friday and reiterated that Donovan McNabb was his starting quarterback for next season. He also said that there was a "pretty good" chance that all three of his quarterbacks -- McNabb, Vick and Kevin Kolb -- would be back for next season. That seems unlikely considering that Vick would cost the Eagles $5.6 million.
In other news, the Eagles will likely be the next stop for free agent Marlin Jackson, according to league sources. The Colts cornerback is scheduled to visit with the Ravens on Tuesday. Jackson's season was cut short last year when he tore his ACL. The year before he tore the ACL in his other knee.
Here's our earlier post about defensive end Aaron Kampman signing with the Jaguars.
I hope so they can trade him!We need some 'D'on this team not the carnival that is mike vick! SHIP him outta here already! socalbirdsfan
For the life of me, I can't figure out what the intentions are of these guys this off-season. It seems like they keep doing the complete opposite of what they should be doing. They have not one one thing to improve this team yet. Oh yea, "I'm happy with what we've got."..."We've got the best roster in the league". Now it makes sense. dixie1
Do the Eagles only have interest in players coming off ACL surgery? Stacy Andrews, Kampman, now Jackson. Maybe you can get them for cheaper, but they never perform to their norm the first year. FlaJim- Ron Mexico will be taking his dog show to Carolina probably. Corey301

Now what? Does this mean Eagles dump KKK? This organization does not want to win. 4-12 at best this season. When are needs really going to be addressed? What about the LB, OL, DE and safety positions that really need tightened up? 1.5 mil for a player who may or may not see the field? philadelphiachild51
The management and Reid continue to be at odds as to McNabb, and while the key, free-agent choices go elsewhere, they are bottom-feeding, as usual. How the fans react in 2010, might bring some much needed change. humanist- Dog Killa back with the team. Oh happy days.
dixie1 You talkin about the eagles or our government.lol Jerseyrebel

Doctor Andy at it again. Drafting players with ACl issues, (Jack I, Cornelius Ingram) signing free agent ACL players, playing Westbrook with a concussion when outside medical people said he should sit longer. Having McNabb pass like 45 times with broken ribs. Wait until Jamal Jackson comes to camp limping. Andy will tell all he's fine. He's a regular medicine man. watsonmr- Eagles management stinks If Lurie doesn't stop this nonsense, he deserves all the vilification he will get. What a joke richsal

philadelphiachild51, since when is Kolb a white supremacist? bboybeballin
Let's see...DoggyKiller gets a $1.5M roster bonus after doing virtually nothing last year. If the Eagles keep him, he'll make a cool $5.8M overall this year. Dawk, after 13 years of outstanding service and still a pro-bowler, asked for an extra $3M over 2 seasons and was shown the door. That makes perfect sense, epsecially with the ridiculously good tandem of Macho Harris and Sean Jones waiting in the wings. The Eagles organization is a complete laughingstock. Dean1
