Eagles take care of business

POSTED: Sunday, September 26, 2010, 7:15 PM

Behind another strong start from Michael Vick, the Eagles brushed aside the Jaguars, beating an inferior opponent for the second consecutive week.

Vick went 17 for 31 passing, for 291 yards and three touchdowns and a 119.2 passer rating. For the second week in a row, he led the Eagles to several explosive plays while avoiding turn overs.

Against a punchless Jaguars team, the game really felt like it might be over after one half. The Eagles took a 14-3 lead on their final drive of the second quarter, and it seemed unlikely that Jacksonville could catch up. Vick added a 45-yard touchdown pass to Maclin and a 17-yard scoring run in the third quarter to put the game completely out of reach.

With Sean McDermott's defense playing a complete game for the first time this year, and a variety of Eagles applying quarterback pressure -- including Brandon Graham, Trent Cole, Juqua Parker and even Trevor Laws and Darryl Tapp -- the Jaguars were stifled.

A big piece of NFL success hinges on beating the few truly weak teams on a schedule, and the Eagles did that Sunday. Tougher tests will be coming, but so far the team has thrived with Vick.

Andy Reid might have looked like a flip-flopper during the week, but with Vick's performance today, he also looked right.

I love how everyone the eagles beat is dubbed an "inferior opponent" as if the birds get some kind of rank beforehand playing the games. what your are basically saying, and what no one in philly news media would ever, ever admit, is that the eagles are a pretty good team.

notojm: pretty good teams can generally get a 3rd & 2 done or even a 4th & 1. Against the hapless Jags they failed miserably. Still, happy to see the win but I think 6-10 season may be optimistic.
While sitting a defensive series, our former air guitarist had his usual detached from the game look on his face while both Vick & Kolb looked actively engaged in the game when watching the defense play.

Good game by Vick, but yes, it was an inferior opponent. The Skins should pose more of a challenge, but seeing as they lost to a Steven-Jackson-less Rams team, the Birds might be on easy street until after the bye week.

notojm...the Eagles are not a pretty good team. They have glaring holes all over the place. They beat a team with more glaring holes than they had. The schedule could do them favors though and the next toughest game might be against the Falcons, Titans or Colts. Still, 3535 is probably right on the money in saying 6-10 is optimistic.

Even if you do not like the team you have to admit they did what they were supposed to do today against the Jags. MV7 (Mike Vick) looked impressive standing in the pocket and delivering the ball. There were some dropped passes but everything can be cleaned up before next week. This is the Vick the people in Atlanta wished they had in his 1st six seasons. Congrats to the Eagles and Vick on a good game today. Its gonna be a good game next week when Washington and Mcnabb come in to play!!

notojm, if pretty good, as in 8-8 is your goal, that's great, but I thought they got rid of McNabb- a far, far better QB than Vick yesterday, today, and tomorrow- because fans were tired of being one of those teams on the cusp of the playoffs every year. Vick passed for the fewest yards of any QB who faced the Jags this year and the other 2 guys (Orton & Rivers) aren't leading juggernauts. The Broncos and Chargers are both 1-2 so far.

At the end of the game, whoever you beat was the "inferior team".

sooo people are bashing the team for winning a game they were supposed? I realized the Super Bowl talk is way off, should anyone say it, but give them team some credit for coming in and taking care of business. Vick dropped balls in WRs hands like I haven't seen in quite some time. The o-line is still a big weakness and needs to come together before we get to the tough part of the schedule, but we beat two teams that we were supposed to. Look at the division, Redskins blew it today, Giants look like garbage, and the Cowboys won their first game...seriously, what else do you want? One could argue we should be 3-0, if we had the QB were starting now..just saying.

"beating an inferior opponent for the second consecutive week". How can you take these writers seriously when they start off with BS like that? Why minimize what they did because Vick is the QB? Did this guy say that when KK beat the mighty Chiefs last year? I think not. Always with the agenda. They are acting like a bunch of whiny little girls.

Let's enjoy the win. The offense moved the ball, and the defense stopped the run and got some pressure. It is a long season made shorter by wins, even if they are wins over teams that on paper you expect to beat.

Well, I guess the Eagles are good for the economy- although I imagine their own business is taking an enormous, long-term, financial hit with this Longest Yard fiasco. Vick does provide extra jobs due to the monitoring, babysitting, and fixing that the Eagles and the NFL have implemented for him to keep him out of jail until he is out of the league (when they won't care and they'll pretend he didn't exist).
