The Eagles and rookie safety Kurt Coleman agreed to terms on a four-year contract, the team announced this evening.

Coleman, who hasn't been at OTAs because of a league rule which forbids players still enrolled in school from participating, was selected in the seventh round of the draft. He was the last of the Eagles' 13 picks. The team inked running back Charles Scott, who was taken in the sixth round, to a contract earlier this week.

The 5-foot-11, 192-pound Coleman was a standout at Ohio State. He has a steep hill to climb, however, if he hopes to make the team. Even with this week's season-ending injury to Marlin Jackson, Coleman still has Quintin Mikell, Nate Allen, Quintin Demps and Macho Harris ahead of him on the depth chart. Harris was recently moved to cornerback, so that may open up a slot for the rookie.

contract does not equal making the team. guaranteed money is low for a 7th rounder. they can cut him at any time and only lose a little cash.

who needs Atogwe when you can lock up that key 7th-rounder skipped over by every other team in the league at least six times? cutting away all kinds of salary, I guess Lurie is counting on a lockout after this season and is protecting his liquid assets.

Mikell was an undrafted free agent and is better than Atogwe. Just because someone was a late round pick, that does not mean that they can't play.

mikell is the strong safety, so he can't be ahead of anyone at the FS position. basically, it's allen and demps. harris is a CB.

Llamaboy? Mikell was exposed for the fraud he is after Dawkins left. He's a glorified special teams ace. This article is a indication on where the Eagles are that a 7th round pick even garnered a headline article. Pathetic can we get 5 back so we can at least talk about somebody that can actually play than these daily updates on 5t/6th rounders,Cfl rb,safety w 2acl's, undersized wr who hasn't played in 2yrs,etc blah blah

Except that they pay handsomely for top talent they feel can help the team. Free agency was sparse this year combined with the fact they they are purposefully getting younger makes it a strategic decision based on talent, not money. And if there is a lockout and if the strike goes on for half the season, the Eagles players will be hitting their prime while older teams may miss their peak.

Can we stop making excuses for this sorry coach/fo. This team hasn't won a sb in over 30 years. So now you mean to tell me that all the other teams are going on business as usual but the Eagles are going to outsmart everybody in 2 yrs after a lockout. You can't be serious! do you really believe that. All the other teams are stockpiling young players also that they drafted in the first 3 rounds! Excuse #4080=" So now we are hoping that it's no football next year so our young guns can learn how to play and everybody else gets old"

stormrider- We don't need to pick up Atogwe because we just drafted Allen in the 2nd round. Forget about him? You clueless dummies are the same boneheads who got their panties in a bunch when they didn't pick up Tony Gonzalez last year. Celek turned out to be OK. By the way, Atogwe is not a pro bowler, is coming off an injury, and will command serious money. It's not gonna happen. Get over it.
