Eagles sign TE and LB

The Eagles just announced that they signed tight end Tony Curtis and linebacker Curtis Gatewood and released quarterback Adam DiMichele and wide receiver Shaheer McBride to make room on their 80-man roster.

The 6-foot-5, 251-pound Curtis was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys as a rookie free agent in 2005 and spent most of the 2005 and 2006 seasons on the team’s practice squad. Since 2006 he's appeared in 36 games (six starts), recording 11 catches for 50 yards and three touchdowns.

Curtis, 26, signed with the Kansas City Chiefs in April but was released earlier this month.

Gatewood, 6-2, 248 pounds, signed with Washington as a rookie free agent following the 2008 draft. He spent most of last season on the Redskins practice squad, was signed by the Chiefs late last season and wound up with the Lions in the spring before being released last week.

Curtis will wear No. 83 and Gatewood will wear No. 48.

DiMichele's Cinderella run is over. The Temple product became expendable when the Eagles signed the slightly more talented Michael Vick. He did get to throw a touchdown pass in last week's preseason game at the Colts, however.

McBride was on the Eagles' practice squad last year, but the team has lots of depth at receiver this year and McBride did nothing during camp to separate himself from the pack.
