Eagles sign RB Joique Bell; release Baskett

POSTED: Tuesday, September 21, 2010, 10:24 AM

The Eagles have signed running back Joique (pronounced JOYK) Bell to their 53-man roster, the team officially announced Tuesday. Bell, who was plucked from the Buffalo Bills practice squad, worked out for the Eagles on Monday and then passed a physical.

To make room on their roster the Eagles released wide receiver Hank Baskett. This is the second September in a row that Baskett has been cut by the Eagles. Last year it was so that quarterback Michael Vick, who was serving a two-game suspension, could be added to the roster.

Baskett did not record a catch in the first two games of the season. He played primarily on special teams. But with the emergence of rookie Riley Cooper as the Eagles' fourth receiver having Baskett on the roster became essentially unnecessary.

Best known perhaps for his marriage to former Playboy Playmate, Kendra Wilkinson, Baskett gained notoriety when he failed to secure an onside kick in February's Super Bowl while playing for the Colts.

The 5-foot-11, 22 220-pound Bell came to the Bills as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Division II Wayne State. He led the Bills in rushing during the preseason with 27 carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns.

The Eagles now have four running backs -- LeSean McCoy, Mike Bell, Eldra Buckley and Bell -- on their roster. They also have fullback Owen Schmitt.

Running back Martell Mallett and safety Chip Vaughn were also released from the practiced squad, the Eagles announced.

Cut Mike Fell. I call him that because he falls down whenever someone touches him, or even comes close to it.
