Eagles sign FB Schmitt and TE/FB Mills

POSTED: Monday, September 13, 2010, 6:40 PM

The Eagles signed fullback Owen Schmitt and tight end/fullback Garrett Mills to the 53-man roster and placed fullback Leonard Weaver (knee) and center Jamaal Jackson (triceps) on injured reserve.

Mills was on the Eagles practice squad. The team also agreed to terms with guard Fenuki Tupou so that he could join the practice squad.

Originally a fifth round draft choice of Seattle in 2008, Schmitt (6-2, 245) played in 30 games (two starts) in two seasons with the Seahawks, notching 12 receptions for 50 yards and one touchdown while adding 21 rushing yards on five attempts. He was released by the team on September 6.

A three-year starter at West Virginia, Schmitt racked up 1,003 career rushing yards on 160 attempts (6.3 average) and also caught 32 passes for 288 yards and two scores. He earned Division III all-conference honors as a freshman at Wisconsin-River Falls before transferring to West Virginia in 2005.

Eagles will never have a good team this year. What team is fighting over a QB at the start of a season so soon. No one except the loser Eagles. Koln is just another Booby Hoying in my book and Vick should be out of football.

"but I will go with what some of his teammates said in huddle...he got sick." None of them ever claimed this. The closest was Hank Fraley when he said McNabb was "almost" puking in the huddle after he got hit hard the previous play. That's it. Leave it to loser Eagle fans to turn that into a whole mythology, believed in because so many fans here didn't like the guy the day he was drafted. Eagles fans=FAIL.

The Eagles are runt he same way the Republican party would run the country if elected: without preparation, bad decision after bad decision, eventually leading to bankruptcy and failure. Reid is even less intelligent than George W. Bush.

maybe some of you "football fans" should look owen schmitt up on you tube. They don't call him the runaway beer truck for anything. The kid is a legend and hero in WV. Great signing by the Eagles

About 1/10th of these posts are actual sports discussions, the rest are rants from people reflecting their own pathetic lives, looking for athletes to make up for it. What a country. Poor Kevin Kolb. Would have helped to start on the road.

Schmitty! The stat they left out on this guy is that he busted 10 facemasks in college.

Wow, MRD, that was a heck of a burn. Did you come up from the basement to get your mom to help you out with that one? Schmitt is an interesting option. He was actually the backup to Weaver in '08, and then sparsely used by Mora in '09. Apparently the Seahawks released him because they're not using fullbacks anymore.

Stop using a fullback and go to double TE offense. How effective can you expect a practice squad guy to be? Let's see if Harbour has what it takes. How could it make the OL any worse?

I laugh at some of the loser players the Eagles have signed. No wonder why everyone says this is a loser team. Its so nice to have this team in NFC East with all the top notch teams and then this team on the bottom.

jlcharles, may not be video proof of Superbowl but I will go with what some of his teammates said in huddle...he got sick. As for actually video proof, google Donovan McNabb throwing up and you get tons of it from Tampa Bay game. Its possible he's done it more than once

Anybody else feel the phillies are just an easier team to like? I love football, the eagles are my team, but I am at the point where I am not sure I like them as people. The Phillies just seem like an easier team to like

Owen Schmitt was a monster fullback for West Virginia. He went through about ten facemasks during his time as a Mountaineer - Philly fans will love him. I don't know how well he catches the ball, but he should be pretty good at blocking and pounding out short yardage. If he can't pick up a blitz, he won't be on the field very much.

Zero rings..."pukey"...hilarious! Although he said in an interview this summer that he didn't puke. Somebody explain that to me...I watched the Super bowl, I was sober...he puked. Why does he deny this?

Wow, a lot of Reid apologist. Iagree with Luriesucks, where is Hartwig or better yet where is Mawae. Oh wait, he retired because noone in the league needed a center who at the same time is President of the NFLPA when a lockout cast a dark shadow over the league.

Right with you UKEagle. I love the predictability of trolls, with no life. Can you imagine the emptiness of an existence which is the basement dwelling out of town troglodyte? The irony, is the Freudian slip of 49years referring to the torturing of small animals, a reference to his other pastime when not trolling or lurking like the sociopathic loser he is in the real world. Idiot keyboard warrior. So pathetically sad you are lower than an algae or fungus... which is insulting to lower life forms.

I completely agree with Lerze! Ziggy; EVERY YEAR Reid refuses obvious holes that even my WIFE can point out. Center was a huge question mark before the injury, and he keeps saying "We'll be alright there" No we won't, the only thing worse then his G,M, skills are his game day coaching skills!

Lerze...what do you want Reid to do?...print a list of people they thought would be good but got hurt, had issues or just weren't as good as we thought? Oh, yeah - I forgot - NO other theam does that either. The easiest job on the planet is making decisions with hindsight. Too bad the job doesn't exist except in the mind of those who never have to make a real decision. Monday morning quarterbacks are all over the place...to bad the pay sucks.

Reid has a plan/formula and sticks with it, for the most part its been successful, like it or not. Unfortunately the "I need to put players in a better position to be successful" wore a bit thin in 2001. A little more frankness and honesty after 11 years in charge wouldn't hurt his rep. "I'm glad we've closed the doors on the Andrews saga, I miss BDawk immensely and wish to god Jason Peters could pay attention for more than 5 minutes, if he moves before the snap again I'm gonna put TOs tights on and sit on his face"... we could all relate to that.

Reid never admits to coming up short in his assessments on any football issue. Since last off-season the question marks with the Oline have been hammered by anaylsts and fans alike. Reid said, I am not worried. Kolb's performance was heavily influenced by Morninwigs poor play calling and Eagles Mgmt.'s refusal to draft a center and real OLine help. They got incredibly lucky with Austin Howard LT. They did waste 3-darft picks for 1-player who again is undersized to play DE. The guy may have motor and heart, but just does not have the size for a 14-16 game season. Unwise use of resources/picks. Get ready for a pick in the top-10 draft. Lets hope they use it more wisely than this past draft.

So it turns out Kolb is horrible...and they just traded their best QB ever to a division rival...OWWW that's gotta hurt Philly. Hey but at least you have a guy that tortures small animals to lead your team. Another 50 years to wait for a winner?
