The Eagles placed rookie defensive end Ricky Sapp, a fifth-round draft pick, on injured reserve Tuesday and picked up defensive end Pannel Egboh off of waivers.

Egboh had been waived by the Texans.

Sapp, who partially tore his right anterior cruciate ligament in 2008 as a junior at Clemson, had previously said that he never felt at full strength during his senior year. The Eagles drafted him in the fifth round in April, but he did not make much of a training camp impact. Head coach Andy Reid said Sapp stepped in a hole recently and "tweaked" his knee. Sapp wrote on Twitter that he would need surgery.

Egboh (6-6, 287) spent the 2009 training camp with the 49ers but was released prior to the start of the regular season. He spent the final four weeks of the 2009 campaign on the Texans' practice squad. The Texans waived Egboh Sunday.
