Eagles get two 7th-round picks
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
ORLANDO -- The Eagles were given two seventh-round compensatory draft picks for the free agents they lost last season, coach Andy Reid said.
The formula isn't an exact science, but the NFL gave the Eagles the two picks based mostly on the production of safety Brian Dawkins and running back Correll Buckhalter. Both players signed with the Broncos last season. Tackle Tra Thomas was signed by the Jaguars last off-season, but didn't play much.
The two additional picks give the Eagles eight draft choices in the upcoming draft. They have picks in each of the first six rounds -- including the 24th overall pick in the first round -- and now two in the seventh.

Two 7th rounders for losing Dawk, Buckhalter, and Tra Thomas? I don't know much about compensatory picks but that seems pretty bad. whiskeybill- Wasn't Dawk a Pro-Bowler? A 7th Round pick for that? Really?
Just what the '"CHIRPS" want 'TWO" seventh round picks right up their alley....cut em already, won't have to pay em' Front office should go to dinner tonite and celebrate!!!!! PhillyPhilly
I don't know anything about how compensatory picks go, but Dawk wakes up a sleeping Broncos defense (at least for 10 games), and the Eagles get a 7th rounder? If the Broncos went to the Super Bowl we'd get a 6th rounder? tacklinjoe

a 7th for Dawk seems light to me... beefbr- Hey Tonka if you think Dawkins was a "career failure" then you have a lot to learn about football because right now you obviously know nothing.
Dawk was an all-timer here. One of the greatest Eagles ever. Show some damn respect. dragoon6
I am amazed by how many NFL writers do not understand the compensatory draft pick system. The Eagles received 2 picks, but not specifically as compensation for losing Dawkins and Buckhalter. They had a net loss of 2 because they lost 4 but then signed a couple. Leonard Weaver's signing was considered roughly equivalent to Dawkins' - if they hadn't signed the fullback, they would have gotten a 3rd or 4th rounder for losing Dawk. I tend to think it's just the Philly writers. Chewey
Tonka- The "career failure" you're refering to was actually VOTED in the Pro Bowl as a STARTER. Dummy. phillychaos
I guess the planet where the Eagles would have gotten a 3rd or 4th compensatory pick for Dawkins is the same planet where he was worth the $7 million he hijacked off the Broncos for last season. ahab
I might have thought so too, Chewey, but I read a Dallas writer who complained that the Eagles were out of their minds thinking they could get a 3rd rounder for Vick in 2011 if they let him walk at the end of the year. He didn't even know any pick they might get would be for 2012 and its value based on what Vick gets from and does with his NEW team. Jeez - I work for the government and I can find this stuff out. How hard can it be? Boy Howdie
Rumor has it the organization has asked the league if they could trade these picks for money to put in their pockets. djax10
EAGLES,WOLD GET ZERO PICKSFOR THE FRONT OFFICE frank martino- Dawk is a sure-fire, first-round Hall of Famer. A guy who changed the position. He's not what he once was, but certainly better than a 7th rounder. El Tel
