Another ranking, another post on Birds' Eye View. The venerable foxsports.com ranked the top franchises in the NFL and the Eagles finished third. Adam Schein based his rankings on eight criteria: owner, front office, head coach, coaching staff, quarterback, offense, defense and intangibles. I think he missed something, though. How about championships?

Of the eight top teams only the Eagles and Falcons have failed to win a Super Bowl in the last 12 years. The list goes: 1. New England, 2. Pittsburgh, 3. Birds, 4. N.Y. Giants, 5. Baltimore, 6. Atlanta, 7. Indianapolis, 8. Green Bay.

Here's Schein's take on the Eagles: "The Eagles didn't get a grade in any category under 8.5. This is a great organization, from owner Jeff Lurie , to the PR staff to the talent and good guys on the playing roster. Andy Reid and his outstanding coaching staff proved to be the difference between the Eagles and rival Giants."

So the Bucs are a "great franchise" just because they won a Superbowl in 2003 or how about St. Louis because they won in 2000? Count up the number of victories, playoff appearances, playoff victories and conference championship appearances for every team in the NFL over the last decade. The Eagles are right up near the top in each of those categories. It's a well-run organization that puts a Superbowl contending team on the field to start pretty much every season. Obviously things like injuries and other factors that arise during the season aren't within control of the team. Takes a lot of luck to win a Superbowl also...you have to have players stay healthy, etc.

How can Green Bay qualify since they have never had an owner?

As much as it pains me to say it, how do you put the Eagles ahead of the Giants? They have 2 championships in the last 9 seasons. That said, the eagles will win the NFC East this year. Go Birds!!

Do the Giants really have two championships in the last nine seasons, or did they get blown out by the Ravens and that middle linebacker who murdered those two guys.

Vegasaries is on crack. The GB Packers have thousands of owners that's how a public company works. Even without an owner, as u say they can still score high enough on the other categories to beat some of the low level competition.
