The Eagles announced today that they have signed team president Joe Banner to a four-year contract extension.

“Joe’s superb foresight both on and off of the football field has been a key driving force for the team’s achievements,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement.

Banner has been with the Eagles since 1994, when Lurie first purchased the franchise. He was named president in 2001. The Eagles are 95-51-1 (.642) in the regular season and 9-7 in the postseason since Banner was named president, and have appeared in five NFC title games and reached one Super Bowl during that span.

They, of course, have not won a championship.

“We are painfully aware that there’s a hole in the resume," Banner said. "At the time same time, we’re proud of our accomplishments.”

The Eagles also announced that senior vice president and chief financial officer Don Smolenski has been promoted to the club's chief operating officer position.

“In every success story there are always a few true heroes that are not as visible as others," Banner said in a press release. "The fans may not know the name, but much of the good that we do starts with Don."
