Eagles deny AP report on Vick

UPDATE: The Eagles issued a statement denying an Associated Press report that the team was strongly considering cutting Michael Vick.
The statement was the first official one the team has made since the day after a man was shot outside a Virginia Beach nightclub that was hosting Vick's birthday party.
"Under normal circumstances, we would not issue a public statement regarding a matter still under investigation," the statement read. "However, due to the intense speculation that exists, we believe it is important to make a statement this afternoon regarding Michael Vick.
"Following the incident that occurred in Virginia on the morning of June 25, Michael and his representatives promptly contacted law enforcement agencies, the Philadelphia Eagles and the National Football League. The Eagles were provided with very detailed information during that discussion as to what took place at the event. Those details have not changed in any way over the course of the last week. Our investigation to this point has confirmed and has been consistent with the information that was originally communicated to us.
"Furthermore, any report or speculation that suggests the Eagles are considering releasing Vick are not true. We will continue to gather information and monitor the situation and we will not have any further comment until that process is complete."

The AP cited a source "with knowledge of the Eagles thinking" in reporting that the team would release its backup quarterback no matter what Virginia Beach police had concluded upon its investigation of a shooting that occurred outside a nightclub that was hosting Vick's birthday party.
Virginia Beach authorities have yet to name a suspect or make an arrest in the shooting that maimed a codefendant in Vick's dogfighting case. Vick has denied having any involvement in the shooting.
The Eagles have said that they would not comment on the incident until they have finished their own fact gathering. Eagles coach Andy Reid, in Afghanistan on a USO tour, told The Inquirer on Friday that the Eagles have yet to make a final decision, although team sources said on Thursday that the Eagles were standing by Vick unless further information linked the 30-year old to the crime.

Comment removed.- anything that starts with "sources say" is probably bogus..name names and be accurate....I hate that....
a condition of his parole was to stay away from co-defendants. Quanis(sp?) Phillips was a co-defendant and also the guy who got shot. Clearly a violation of parole. Brisket McGillicutty

legalman, by your name I would infer that you are looking at this from a legal perspective. Don't. How the Eagles and the NFL deal with it is about public perception. In the eyes of most, the fact that Vick would even have the party in this particular place shows a clear lack of judgement. The fact that an incident occured is enough for anyone to have the 'it was bound to happen' response. Vick's involvement in the actual shooting is irrelevant in regards to public perception, his parole, and to his conditional reinstatement. disgruntled fan
The Eagles "statement" is a non-statement. They're waiting for the NFL to discipline Vick, because Lurie and Banner don't have the stones to man-up to their earlier hard-line comments (but of course, we all knew they didn't). jman
CUT VICK, AND CUT THEIR OWN THROATS. IF HE HAD NO INVOLVEMENT, THEN HE BEARS NO RESPONSIBILITY. LEAVE THE LAD ALONE. GIANT AND DALLAS FANS ARE PRAYING IN FATASY LAND FOR VICK TO LEAVE PHILLY. HA! HA! HE AIN'T GOING NO WHERE BUT UP YOUR BACKS, ALL SEASON LONG! YOU NAY SAYERS-DREAM ON, CREEPS! black prince
WHAT'S WORSE, DOG FIGHTING OR RAPE? CUT THAT FREAK IN PITTSBURGH, THEN TALK ABOUT CUTTING VICK. CAN'T BELIEVE HOW MANY BIGOTS ARE STILL ROAMING THIS LAND. ALL YOU DOG ADVOCATES SURE LOVE RODEOS. YEEE HIIIII! AND LAMB CHOPS! black prince
"...Vick is on a short 'leash'..." What a convenient choice of words! jman
It may or may not be a legal thing but it is surly a moral thing. Vick's lifestyle and the violent culture he lives is the issue. The Vick Atlanta red #7 jersey is still the most popular football jersey worn in urban areas across the country. Many youths want to look like him and act like him. Carlos2
djlen, why is Vick an embarassment for you, you talk like you are the one signing the paychecks, if you feel like you can't cheer for the Eagles, just don't cheer. And another thing if you are all that concerned as are alot of others in Philly, why do you have such an issue, with the crime rates, this would include dogfighting and animal cruelty..........................oh maybe you didn't notice it until Vick came to town. A bunch of dam phonies. charmaine
Get rid of him - not because of the nightclub incident and not because of the dog fighting but he is a mediocre QB who has done nothing in 10 years to upgrade his skills. Yes he could run but those days are dwindling. At present he is a thug and will always be a thug. Let him go back to the hood and do what thugs do! jakster- Now that Jamarcus Russell has proven himself with his recent arrest its only logical that the Eagles sign him and cut Kevin Kolb. Vick and Russell...perfect together...the real haters would just love that.
