Eagles clinch NFC East

The day started with the Eagles and their fans upset about a blizzard-induced postponement, but ended in joy as the Eagles clinched the NFC East and a postseason berth after the New York Giants lost at Green Bay, 45-17, on Sunday.

The Eagles can finish with no worse than the No. 3 seed and will at least host one game in the playoffs. They still have a first-round bye to play for with two games remaining. Those games will take place over a five-day span after the NFL moved Sunday night’s Eagles-Vikings game at Lincoln Financial Field to Tuesday because of the blizzard that pounded Philadelphia and the East coast.

The Eagles end the regular season against the Cowboys on Jan. 2 also at the Linc.

Even if the Eagles win both games, they’ll need some help to secure a higher seeding. The Bears beat the New York Jets, 38-34, to move to 11-4, a half game ahead of the Eagles. The Packers could assist the Eagles again by beating Chicago next week. If that were to occur, and the Eagles won their remaining two they would own the No. 2 seed.

They are still not mathematically eliminated from the top seed, but the 12-2 Falcons would have to lose to the 10-4 Saints on Monday and then against the 2-13 Panthers in the finale.

Right now, though, the Eagles can bask in their first divisional crown since 2006. It is coach Andy Reid’s sixth NFC East first place finish since he took over in 1999.

Funny I thought they were supposed to finish 5-11 without #5

Absolutely correct birdseed. Kolb, Kolb...the name is familiar...something about accuracy, toughness, leadership, quick decision making, star in the making, the doubters will see or something like that...Kolb...hmmm,it'll come to me...

Give KK the start in the last game to get Vick rested and ready for the playoffs. Heck, if we're winning, play KK the 2nd half of Tuesday night's game, too. He's getting paid, and can get the job finished as well. If he does something great, he'll be worth that much more if we trade him next year. He's the Matt Schaub of the Eagles... stuck behind Vick, but a very good quarterback in his own right. Peace all.

Glad we got that straightened out ! At least the arguments for and against were clear and concise. Thanks, both.

I would agree with landt. Let Vick play the first half and Kolb play the 2nd half and the last game. Let Vick recover from the beatings he has been taking. The last thing you want is for him to get hurt in the last game of the season. If you win tuesdays game, then you can use him just in case the Bears are losing to the Packers. You just might get the 2nd seed, so use Vick only if you have to. Also, true is the fact that playing Kolb is an audition for the league to see prior to the end of the season. It's a win - win situation for the team.

If the Iggles just play the way they can the rest of the regular season, then let's just sit back and enjoy the outcome.

Great job Eagles, on a wonderful season! Hopefully the Pack can beat the Bears next week and the Eagles take care of the Vikings and the 'Boys.

I am an Eagles fan. I hate the Giants. But, why do you only get two challenges if one of your challenges is upheld. You are being penalizes for being correct and for referee's incompetence. In the Giants game this came up and later on there was an interception in which the replay showed the intercepter did not have two feet in bounds. Because NYG did not have a challenge they were penalized again for the referee's bad call. I think this is something the NFL should address. A team should be given back their challenge if they win it. A argument against this could be that too many challenges would slow down the game. Well the answer is GET THE CALL RIGHT THE FIRST TIME AND THERE WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM!!!

Ok, so they postponed the game. How about the magnificent Christmas presents this weekend? First, creep Jerry Jones gets it shoved up his um, nose, with a missed extra point and a last second loss. Yep, NFL network didn't have the guts to show his face at the end, after cutting to him and the idiots in his box the whole game. Then, the gutless Giants absolutely implode in a humiliation at Green Bay. Today however we had plenty of opportunities to see the head jester Coughlin, at his red-faced best, as well as the dazed look on the chromosomally challenged Eli Manning.

Still sucks they didn't play that game tonight, no way is it bad enough to call an NFL game over. NFL Pusses didn't want to see snowballs flying in prime time, probably.

IN HIS BUILDING! IN HIS FACE!

I had picked the Eagles to win 4 games, but that was with 4 at QB.

So last week's throwing of Dodge under the bus by Coughlin was pretty pointless.

Giants are like my IRA, every year it has a rollover. Can't figure why Eli doesn't get more criticism. Does one lucky SB win give him a lifetime pass from all these choke jobs? Been over rated for years, like his brother. Eli Manning has coined a new entry for Webster's Dictionary: Wahoppen.

Great year for the eagles so far. I think they can make it to the superbowl. I am glad they are using Desean mostly on long pass plays that will avoid any more concussions. Here are my suggestions. I think on offense they should once in awhile use the hurry up schemes that Peyton Manning uses. And #2 the defense needs to continue to improve and shut down the other team after the eagles score (Mcdermot is getting better). Let's go eagles and lets win the superbowl.
