Eagles sign Mat McBriar, release Chas Henry
Zach Berman, Inquirer Staff Writer
The Eagles made a change at punter on Tuesday, signing Mat McBriar to a two-year deal and releasing Chas Henry.
McBriar, a two-time Pro Bowler, spent the preseason with the Eagles but did not beat Henry for the job while recovering from a football injury.
Henry has struggled this season, and special teams coach Bobby April spoke last week about a technical problem in Henry's punts.
Henry has six punts this season with a net average of 38 yards.
The Eagles also signed long snapper Kyle Nelson to practice squad. He's insurance in case Jon Dorenbos cannot play with a high ankle sprain. If that's the case, the Eagles will need to cut a player from active roster. They released Jeremy Ebert from the practice squad.
I still will never forgive Henry for that weak pass own the 4 th down conversion last year. No loss yourdaddy!
Wow. This is a smarter move than signing a fullback? A safety? An o-lineman? rubicon24
Being cut by the Eagles right now is like being thrown off the Titanic before it sailed in 1912. It's a blessing in disguise! Too many henerys anyway. sammydelphia
Woo Hoo, Super Bowl here we come! Luriesucks
If I remember correctly Dorenbos was the back up holder. JamesSeitz
Inside scoop. Now it can be revealed. Henery was doing the punting and Henry the field goals but the coaches didn't know the difference. imcharlie
why would the eagles bother to get a punter if they just turn it over on 2nd down? bloodymess- Can't we just pass on 4th down priceless.
