Eagles sign Mat McBriar, release Chas Henry

POSTED: Tuesday, September 25, 2012, 2:26 PM

The Eagles made a change at punter on Tuesday, signing Mat McBriar to a two-year deal and releasing Chas Henry.

McBriar, a two-time Pro Bowler, spent the preseason with the Eagles but did not beat Henry for the job while recovering from a football injury.

Henry has struggled this season, and special teams coach Bobby April spoke last week about a technical problem in Henry's punts.

Henry has six punts this season with a net average of 38 yards.

The Eagles also signed long snapper Kyle Nelson to practice squad. He's insurance in case Jon Dorenbos cannot play with a high ankle sprain. If that's the case, the Eagles will need to cut a player from active roster. They released Jeremy Ebert from the practice squad.

No hang time, no job. Plus this will get rid of all that confusing Henery, Henry stuff.

Why not just let Vick fumble or throw an interception on 4th down. Does it really matter how the other team gets the ball back?
That way we don't need a punter and can save some money to pay the real refs:) — mainstreet

thats actually a crative way to help stay under the cap !!!!!!

On fourth down, instead of punting, let Vick throw a long interception. He can throw way more than 38 yards! Put the defense out there with him. Oh, that's right. They can't tackle either. Good thing I am kidding. I know the rules. On fourth down, they would simply bat the pass down and get the ball at the original line of scrimmage. The way Vick is playing, it is bnetter ot joke than look at this mess seriously. And, it isn't just Vick!

Sometime -- many years from now -- people are going to grow tired of using the expression "it's like re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic." Instead, they'll start saying "it's like signing a new punter to the 2012 Eagles."

He is a bad punter and if you posted that you thought he was good for hitting 48 yard line drives with no hang time, your privileges should be suspended. I agree with the post above. The FG kicker should be next because he can't kick 40 yd FG. Next time you quote that he was the most accurate rookie field goal kicker ever, ask why he didn't make the all-rookie team and no one was surprised. If you take away all of the actual good FG kickers 45plus FG and attempts, all of a sudden his accuracy isn't anything to write home about at all. He only ate, pets like 1 Fg

Says the special teams expert. He wasn't hitting 48 yard line drives. Maybe you should have your posting privileges suspended. That would work out for you though, then you can focus more time on coaching special teams.

Over 45 yds missed it. He oly had 4 or 5 total kicks over 40 yds and missed most of them as well. Great kickers often don't miss FG under 40 yds all season so Henery was unimpressive considering the eagles punted a number of times last year instead of attempting a45-55yd FG bc he can't make them.

They cut the punter, the longsnapper is hurt, Johnson can't seem to make the right decisions when fielding punts. April's got his work cut out for him.
