Eagles pursuing free agent TE James Casey

The Eagles have expressed interest in tight end James Casey and are expected to bring him in for a visit this week, an NFL source said.

While Casey isn't considered one of the most sought after free agents on the market, his versatility certainly makes him appealing to many teams, including the Eagles.

New Eagles coach Chip Kelly is expected to do away with the fullback position, but Casey could fill that role if need be.

The 28-year-old Casey (6-foot-3, 240 pounds) caught 34 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns last season.

In four seasons in Houston, he compiled 66 catches for 752 yards and four touchdowns.

The Eagles are also expected to bring 49ers defensive lineman Ricky Jean-Francois in for a visit, according to the NFL Network.

The 6-3, 295-pound Jean-Francois could play defensive end in the Eagles' expected move to a 3-4 and compete with Cedric Thornton for that spot.

UPDATE (4:38 p.m.) - The Eagles are also reportedly set to bring the 49ers' Isaac Sopoaga in for a visit sometime this week. The 31-year old nose tackle has played in 124 games over the last eight seasons in San Francisco. Sopoaga (6-2, 321) started in nine games for the 49ers last season and was used primarily on run downs.

Those of you who think CAsey or some retread nose tackle are great moves....welcome to 4 & 12 again. We do have a lot of holes to fill, but we need TALENT to fill those holes! Don't have to buy everyone, how about a saftey that can cover a tight end or God forbid, make a TACKLE! That's talent my friends...we have plenty of mediocrity!
