The Eagles claimed linebacker Najee Goode off waivers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and released linebacker Emmanuel Acho on Monday.

The move comes as a surprise because Acho appeared to be the team's third best inside linebacker, even registering 11 tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble in Thursday's preseason finale. But the team kept both Casey Matthews and Jake Knott ahead of Acho. Special teams also factors into the decision, though, and Matthews is a strong special teams player.

Goode, 6-foot and 244 pounds, was a fifth-round pick by the Bucs last season out of West Virginia. He played in three games, but did not record a statistic. Goode returned an interception for a touchdown in Tampa Bay's preseason finale.

Acho is eligible for the practice squad, but he must first clear waivers.
