Eagles-Vikings game moved to 8:20 p.m.

POSTED: Monday, December 13, 2010, 2:00 PM

The Eagles-Vikings game scheduled for the day after Christmas at Lincoln Financial Field has been moved from a 1 p.m. start to 8:20 p.m. The game will be broadcast on NBC.

It will be the sixth time this season that the Eagles will be playing in prime-time. They are 5-0 this season in night time games. But first, the Eagles travel to face the New York Giants on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The final regular season game in which the Eagles host the Cowboys on Jan. 2 is slated to begin at 1 p.m., but could also be moved to a later start.

So why are the Eagles such a hot prime-time commodity? Two words: Michael Vick.

Vick, by the way, was seen down at the NovaCare Complex on Monday. While most of the Eagles were taking the day off to rest, the quarterback was getting an extra workout in, he said.

"I don't need a day off," Vick said.

The Eagles have become quite the hot commodity in the NFL as far as Prime Time. And it's all Michael Vick.

Another Eagles game being moved to Prime Time? The NFL is enjoying riding "The Micheal Vick Experience" to the highest ratings. Maybe they should clue their refs on calling the games by the rules with more people watching Vick being hit out of bounds and facemasked. Its surprising that Peyton nor Brady can do this: http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2010/12/13/best-overnight-rating-in-sunday-night-football-history-for-eagles-cowboys/75191

As a season ticket holder, these night games are getting wearisome. I miss the Sunday at 1 PM game so much . . .

"So why are the Eagles such a hot prime-time commodity? Two words: Michael Vick"

This is the ONLY game re-scheduled for prime-time. The other five (SF, WAS, NYG, HOU, DAL) had nothing to do with Vick as they were all regularly scheduled when the schedule was released out back in April.

low self-esteem: every sunday night game after week 8 are on whats called a "flex" schedule. meaning the NFL can change the game at anytime, almost all of the games have been changed except the eagles and last weeks game... and since last night was one of the highest watched sunday night games of the year i am going to guess that the eagles cowboys game wil also be moved.

bleed green forever – I’m aware of how the flex schedule works. However, the SF, WAS, NYG, and HOU games were not subjected to being flexed. The Dallas game last night (although subjected to being flexed) was already previously scheduled 8 months ago and wasn’t going to be flexed (ratings) regardless of who was playing QB. The writer suggests the Eagles were given 5 previous prime-time games "because of Vick" when that is simply not true.

It looks like Vick has gone through an Ebenezer Scrooge type transformation. He saw "shapes of things" if his lifestyle was
not altered, where he would be? Either jail or the cemetery.

I hope Mike keeps the new found faith, and to know, he can quickly lose it again, if he doesn't stay on the straight and narrow path of
    true redemption.

To the man upstairs, even the most wretched of beasts in this world
can be found again, Merry Christmas Mr. Vick.

to deny vick isn't the reason the eagles are prime time is just foolish.

A few people are questioning that the TV move is about Vick? Love him or hate him, it's undeniable that he attracts viewers. Beyond Mike Vick, the Eagles are entertaining. They are probably going to have one or two long plays by Jackson or McCoy, and the D is a good bet to pick a pass or two. The Birds keep the games close, squandering leads or coming from behind. Good for ratings.

Low Self-Esteem: Eagles @ Bears was moved to 4:15 (not 1pm as originally scheduled). They had 5 games eligible for flex (the Thurs night game was not). So far 2 have been moved to nationally televised games, and one game was left at prime time (they could have moved the Dallas game to 1pm if they wanted to). Thus, the point of the "prime time commodity."

People want to see Vick before the season ends. Its only 3 weeks away, maybe 4.

Hard to function the next day watching football until after midnite.

I think you all raise really good points. The Eagles are absolutely a hot prime time commodity because of Vick. Though low self esteem is right when he says only one game was moved to 8 because of Vick. Still, there's no debying that Vick has taken them to another level in terms of being ratings boosters, and 42Homestead, you're right. Staying up late watching football week after week is tiresome, especially for those of us who have to go to work the next day.

I'm happy that the birds are doing well and Vick and co. are drawing national attention but I'm tired of these night games. I only get to watch a handful of games and trying to stay up for the prime time games is near impossible (I'm 6 hours ahead in Europe). I was really looking forward to these last 3 games being at a reasonable hour. I really, really, really hope they don't move the NY and the final Dallas game.... but they probably will.
    Let's Go Birds!!!
As a side note, it's nice to see the offense clicking again and I hope the D can hold off the Giants.

@sgamble077 - check out the Eagles games at the only dedicated Eagles sports bar in Vegas - Madison Bar and Grill (google it). I've never missed a game since I found it, no matter when it's shown. Based on the TV ratings, the networks love it when they can show Vick to a national audience.
