Eagles-Cowboys up-down drill

Bzzzzzzz. (DAVID MAIALETTI / Staff Photographer)

It took us all season, but we decided to post Bob Brookover's up-down drill that appears in the newspaper, but someone never makes here online. So enjoy (we think)

DOWN
Andy Reid
Now the coach has a first-round playoff loss to go with his four NFC championship and one Super Bowl losses.

DOWN
Donovan McNabb

Let the speculation about the quarterback’s future begin.

DOWN
DeSean Jackson

The derrieres of the Dallas Cowboys did not appear to be stung at the end of the evening.

DOWN
Brian Westbrook

He wasn’t on the field a lot and you have to wonder about his future in Philadelphia, too.

DOWN
Michael Vick

His second-quarter touchdown pass looked big at the time. His second-quarter fumble ended up being much bigger. As football experiments go, the Vick test tube should now be discarded.

DOWN
Jason Peters

NFL referees should just make a recording that says, “false start, No. 71 offense” whenever they’re working an Eagles game.

DOWN
Sheldon Brown

A questionable pass interference call early in the second quarter against the cornerback cost the Eagles 40 yards and gave Dallas a first down at the Eagles’ 1-yard line. The Cowboys capitalized with a TD on the next play. Brown was burned a few more times before the end of the evening.

DOWN
Sean McDermott

The defensive coordinator said he would coach better. He didn’t.

UP
Wade Phillips

The Cowboys’ coach got his first playoff victory in his fifth try and he might have a team that’s good enough to play in the Super Bowl.

UP
Tony Romo

The Cowboys’ quarterback looked a little shaky early, but put up some big numbers. Still not sure he’s good enough to win it all.

UP
Tracy White

Pressure from the Eagles’ linebacker forced Romo out of the pocket on a second-and-23 play with Dallas at the Philadelphia 27-yard line.

UP
Chris Clemons

White’s pressure led to a sack by the Eagles’ seldom-used defensive end, which pushed the Cowboys out of field goal range on Dallas’ opening drive.

UP
Chris Gocong

The Eagles’ benched linebacker returned as a pass rusher and came up with a sack on Dallas’ second possession, which again pushed the Cowboys out of field goal range. He later saved a punt return for a touchdown with a tackle of Patrick Crayton.

DOWN
Cowboys second-quarter challenge

Referee Ed Hochuli – yes, the infamous Ed Hochuli – overturned the ruling on the field that safety Sean Jones intercepted a second-quarter Romo pass that would have given the Eagles the ball at the Dallas 14-yard line. The evidence for overturning the call is supposed to be indisputable. Was it?

DOWN
Ken Hamlin

Be interesting to see how much the Cowboys’ safety is fined for his cheap shot on Eagles tight end Brent Celek in the first quarter. It should be more than the $7,500 Macho Harris was hit with after his hit on Denver’s Tony Scheffler a few weeks ago.

UP
Miles Austin

The man from Monmouth University scored another TD for the Cowboys.

UP
Jeremy Maclin

At least the rookie receiver scored a touchdown.

Down - Hochuli's "officiating crew" and their idiocy. the pass interference on Brown was total BS (he had position and was looking for the ball); the intentional grounding on McNabb wasn't (the TV diagram showed him out of the tackle box); the failure to call roughing the passer when McNabb was thrown to the ground after the play was over. Ridiculous. I love how everyone piles on after a painful loss. McDermott didn't coach better? Even the TV announcers noted the changes to how the D-line was lining up and then switching just before the snap; more blitzing. The problem was execution - I was impressed with the changes that McDermott made to the D-scheme.

Just have to admit that the Eagles are average at best. Didn't manage a win over a team with a winning record all year and couldn't do anything with teams that did have winning records, i.e. Saints, Dallas. Yeah, this team has a long way to go. Got to sure up that defense, and time to say goodbye to number 5.

riley1875: Was Dallas thinking about SB after 44-6 loss last year? Yes, they were. You have to keep a positive attitude about the SECOND best offense in the league even after getting blanked by Cows. We need help in defense and run game. We will be very good next year.

Are there any Dallas fans out there who would root for the Eagles if Kolb were the qb?

Whoaboy, hard to figure out what you're trying to say at times. But Jeff Garcia LOST the divisional playoff game in 2006. He only completed only 15-of-30 passes. The Eagles hardly rushed the ball (68/32 pass/run ratio). Our defense coughed up 208 yards rushing and couldn't get off the field. SOUND FAMILIAR? But it was Garcia, not McNabb... And Feeley's run back in 2002 wasn't why the team won; Feeley completed just 55.8% of his passes, with 6 TD's and 5 INT's. (Imagine if McNabb had such mediocre numbers.) But our defense gave up an average of just 12 points in the 6 games Feeley played. Give up just 12 points and you're going to win a lot of games (yesterday's contest at Dallas included!). Regardless of your QB. Look at Joe Flacco: 4-of-10 for 34 yards and one INT today for Baltimore, in a blowout WIN. The problems run far deeper than McNabb; neither our offense nor our defense is designed to win against elite teams, while other clubs can win in the playoffs with even below average quarterbacking.

Gotta give Andy Reid a pat on the back for rebuilding the team and still maintaining a winning team, BUT, we see the same results with DonMac at QB -- losing the tough ones, and that includes Oakland who played tough and exposed the meek QB. Back in '03 when AJ Feeley replaced DonMac the team won because Andy Reid used his greatest asset, Feeley's discipline. When #5's heel healed he reeled in the playoff and lost. Jeff Garcia followed two (3?) years later, won, lost the playoff game to McNabb who lost the playoff game. Sorta like what goes around in this franchise stays around even with a rebuilt team -- get it? (Hello QB Kolb. I want to continue wearing the #4 jersey I purchased the day you were drafted.)

i wish we would have played the eagles in philly so we could see the shock, anger, disappointment, and sadness from those low life eagle fans. The most classless fans in america. You guys cheered when michael irvin layed motionless on your turf, u threw snow covered batteries at our coach, j.johnson, u made excuses for last weeks _sswhoopin, saying the eagles held back, lol. Then u see the class of us cowboy fans giving a nice ovation to mikell, brown, and other numerous players on your team that got hurt during the game, just to let them know we're glad they're o.k. U got what you've always deserved eagles fans, another short and disappointing season. Good always prevails over evil. GO COWBOYS!!!

The day after a 20 point loss in the playoffs, during a season in which they lose to a division opponent three times............someone is talking about the Super Bowl being in the near future. Wow.....that's all I can say.......wow.

no bout a'doubt it! McNabb has _zero_ urgency in anything he does. He needs to leave. Also, you can't blame the defense-- they were on the field for 50mins of the game. We had issues a coupla seasons ago when our offense was too prolific- we were scoring in under 2mins each time, and the defense was getting tired from being on the field too long. Ask me why Andy Reid doesn't run a "balanced" offense-- I have no idea............

Just MAYBE this three-headed wake-up call will shake the brain trust enough to spend money, draft picks and trade efforts to seriously upgrade our Defense. The Yahoos calling for Andy's head, and/or Mc5's, don't appreciate what those two have done over the years for this franchise. We need ....N E E D(!)....the kind of "D" next year that will limit the other guys to 17-21 PPG. And I'm sure Andy WILL get the O-Line to be a cohesive unit again at the season's start. If they avoid injuries, they can be the force needed to launch an Offense that WILL average 24 to 30 PPG! Hellllooooo Superbowl.

the ref made the right call by over ruling the interception. You need to be either blind or just plain stubborn to refuse to admit that we all saw the same view. The player did not have control of the ball and when he hit the ground the ball was partially under his arm. I mean seriously, you can clearly see that the ball was squished by the guys arm for petes sake. You can clearly see that the ball looked like a water ballon when he fell on it.....

Down - Joe Banner's best roster in football pre-season comment. Down - Jeffrey Lurie extending Reid's contract in week 12. Down - Us eagles fans for being ridiculed by the national media only for realizing all the faults of this franchise. From the pass happy coach to the quarterback that lacks the IT factor.

Call me a hater. McNabb to Seahawks for a conditional 5th rounder. Intrepid reporter Dave Spadero calls the trade "...the start of a bold new era in gold-standard football"

The nose of the football clearly touched the ground, then Jones secured it. Good call
