Eagles' 1st-team offense back together -- for a walk-through
Zach Berman, Inquirer Staff Writer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Minor injuries have been overbearing during the past few days, but the Eagles' expected first-team offense this season was together for the first time since the first day of camp during Saturday's walk-through.
That included Evan Mathis and Todd Herremans on the line and Brent Celek at tight end. They all participated. DeSean Jackson, who was injured on Friday, also participated.
"That's pretty big to have everyone back together," LeSean McCoy said. "Injuries, weather. It was good to have everyone out there. Hopefully, practice, we'll be on the same page."
Mathis (inner ear infection) hoped to return to practice this afternoon. Celek planned to practice.
On the defense, Jamar Chaney was not participating, but we'll have a better sense of who is in and who is out during the afternoon practice.
Some more tidbits...
**McCoy said the player who has jumped out at him during camp has been Dion Lewis. McCoy boasted about Lewis in an Inquirer story last week.
**The Eagles have only nine linebackers on the roster, but Juan Castillo said that is actually a good thing. It breaks into three even groups, and the Eagles primarily practice with two groups.
**Schemes are usually vanilla in the preseason, but it might be especially vanilla for the Eagles' defense in the preseason opener. Because the Steelers have a new offensive coordinator and system, it will be difficult to gameplan as precisely as a team with an estabilished offense. The Eagles will devote a day to preparing for Pittsburgh, though.
I hope McCoy is right about Dion. He showed us a lot of nothing in the return game last year but maybe we really were just not playing to his strenghts. Big Red has a knack for doing that. I think that if he started right now "putting the players in a position to make plays" then maybe we'll be ready when the season starts. That is the most annoying press conference phrase I have heard a coach utter. Hopefully we won't hear much of it this year. Go Birds!!! YorklovestheIggles
Dion will be a real nice player for us for the next year or two, but once Bryce learns how to blobk n pick up blitzes, Dion will be traded for a 2nd round pick. Dion will be good! Bryce will be special! There wont be much difference between trent richardson and Bryce Brown 3 years from now, believe it or not! johnGiam- Love your optimism. Very refreshing.
tpizza - Yea, what's up with that, @tpizza? Doesn't @johnGiam know the first two posts are reserved for: "Same results for 50 years" and "WE WILL NEVER WIN WITH REID AS COACH"?
- lol, delusion is "refreshing"....thats great. Most delusional post I have seen on here in weeks, I had to take a picture. When it proves to be horirbly wrong there is photographic proof that pizza is a moron.
JohnGiam,,,, lets hope that you are right,, that would be something.
Eagles are due for a break or two and gambling on a potential star and having him pan out would be it. phillyroni
Mathis has an inner ear infection? THAT'S THE FINAL STRAW!!! Reid is running these guys into the ground and there will be no team left walking once the season starts!! Next I'll be a hang nail or an Indian Rub or some other season ending injury...maybe even a nipple cripple! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY LONGER! REID MUST GO!
Sorry, I just had to...
tpizza- Somebody get this guy a Valium!

you know my moto: "if they healthy enough to do a walk through, then they are healthy enough to play in a regular season game"-the gospel of John!
btw, nmandi and drc will be by far the best corner duo in the league this year! never under estimate a super athlete with alot to prove during a contract year! johnGiam
@johngiam - You are full of prediction with nothing at stake. That is completely weak. Are you the sideline superscout? Since NFL teams don't like to use 1st rd picks on RB's, how do figure a team will give you a 2nd rd pick for aguy that is a back-up? Has it ever happened? If a guy is good enough to get a 2nd rd pick from an NFL teams(who hoard picks like no other sport) why would you trade him becassue he must mean other teams see him as 1,800 yd from scrimmage player to give that much up. Never over estinmate a suoper athlete with low ambition, spotty concentration, and 4 years of tape under his belt. UncleStosh
actually I been at every single day of camp with the exception of two! Andy Reid has gotten high draft picks for aj freakin Feeley and KOLB....and dion lewis will be 3 times the player both of them will ever be....so tell me again how what I am saying is impossible? johnGiam
lol, is this a joke. I hope so. Really. Bryce Brown was lucky to even be DRAFTED. HE DID NOTHING IN COLLEGE. SCOUTS WANT TO SEE IMPROVEMENT EVERY YEAR IN COLLEGE. If a guy does great years 1 and 2 and flames out year 3 (vontaze burfect) they might not get drafted. If a guy does nothing years 1, 2, 3, 4 and quits 2 programs its a team pretty stupid or guillable to even draft the guy. It means he doesnt have THE HEART to play the game. Bryce Brown is not even a lock to make the team and you think he will be better then Trent Richardson lol....and dion is not going to be traded for a 2nd round pick...0 chance. Not happening and niether is an Andy Reid "superbowl"....keep dreaming. CharlieGarner25
Well, I got censored again; so sorry, I guess tpizza must be friends of someone at the "paper." Stop moaning about ailments you probably have never suffered; most of the trolls that show up on here would have a coronary if they had to move off their couch. Lewis will be a credible #2 to McCoy, provided Reid actually decides to run the ball more than 15 times a game. MidStaterUXB
Optimism by it's very nature cannot be wrong moron. It's a synonym for hope. There is nothing wrong with hoping your team does well. That's what fans do. There's nothing wrong with looking at both sides of the ledger and seeing if the good points out weigh the bad. A moron is someone who comes on this site every day and copy/pastes the same BS until he becomes a caricature of himself and a complete laughing stock. A moron is someone who says the team they "root" for will never win a SB...every day till no one cares. Even fans of the worst teams in the league HOPE their team does well. John is giving his opinion. I doubt you'll see the same opinion from him EVERY DAY...like you. He isn't like you hindsight who blasts the team for drafting Fletcher Cox one day and then calls him a potential impact player just a day or so ago. Lastly I was addressing John, when I want your opinion, I'll tell you what it is. Refreshing is NOT a synonym for YOUR opinion. Irrelevant is a good place to start. How many syllables in irrelevant, moron?
BTW, you guys DO realize the 2:01 comment was said tongue in cheek directed at all the hysteria over every little bump the players get, right? Sheez, lighten up Francis? tpizza
one of the best offseasons in the history of this franchise!!! johnGiam
