DeSean on contract: Eagles "going to have to do something"

POSTED: Tuesday, December 14, 2010, 4:04 PM

DeSean Jackson said that the Eagles are "going to have to do something" in terms of his contract during an appearance on the "T.Ocho Show" that is scheduled to air tonight at 10 p.m. on Versus.

The Eagles wide receiver was interviewed via satellite by Bengals receivers -- and stars of their own show -- Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco, and was asked about getting a new contract.

"This is like my third year. I officially have one year left," Jackson said in a preview clip. "We've talked so far with my agent, Drew [Rosenhaus], and the Eagles. We're just seeing how it can go now. The 30-percent rule, the [collective bargaining agreement] and all that, and the new year coming up next year and us being locked out, there's a lot of ins and outs that go into it.

"T.O., man, I'm going to set the bar for you. I'm going to try and get the most I can and I'm going to set it high for you."

Owens, a former Eagles receiver, replied, "I wish you the best."

Jackson continued by saying, "It is what it is, but they're going to have to do something, because the way I'm out there putting it in something's got to happen, man."

The third-year receiver is coming off his best performance of the season when he caught four passes for 210 yards and scored a scintillating 91-yard touchdown against the Cowboys. Jackson's backward flop into the end zone, however, resulted in a unsportsmanlike personal foul and was criticized by many from across the NFL.

For the season, he has 42 catches for 972 yards and six touchdowns.

well this could be interesting.. if it comes down to it do you resign Vick so you can franchise Jackson? last thing jackson needed for public sentiment was to go on the TO show.

He can play but he's gotta grow up. Just play the damn game and stop with the cheap T.O. imitation. We don't need a redo on all that drama! Oh yeah, gotta lose the 'gator arms when he goes over the middle. Hopefully the further he gets away from the 'cussion, the longer his arms will get.

If DJax wants to set the bar high, he's gonna do that on another team. I'm tired of his showboating anyway. He's no Steve Smith (Panther edition). He's very fast, he can catch the ball, but he is short and can't jump. He doesn't do much for their offense in the red zone. If he completes his evolution into TO, he'll be another team's problem. Talent alone should get him a big contract, but that attitude...

@ wingguy i think the answer to the gator arms over the middle is dont send him over the middle. hes not built for that. send celek and avant over the middle for the tough grabs. it should be open with maclin and jackson stretching the field like they do so well

DeSean... I'm not telling you not to celebrate TD's... I'm not telling you not to have swagger. Just carry yourself like a respectable confident black man & you will get paid. There is nothing wrong about acting intellegent about all this. People will respect you for it in the long run. Look what happens to brothers who act like N*****s (slang for complete idiots)! You have to know that if Rosenhaus's hands were not tied right now you wouldn't be on that field without a large contract. TO & Ocho is not the way to act and you shouldn't be impressed by them. The Bengals have lost 10 in a row for a reason. And the reason isn't "lack of talent."

"...T.O., man, I'm going to set the bar for you. I'm going to try and get the most I can and I'm going to set it high for you..." Yeah, b/c that strategy worked so well for TO. D-Jax, I'm glad you're on our team and you got skills. Other than that, your just a punk who needs to grow up. It's a 2 way street, you think you'd be putting up these numbers in most other offenses of the NFL and on some other putrid team. You don't think having Shady, Vick, Maclin, Celek etc. opens things up for you and the other way around. Enough already.

What is the problem here? Desean is a huge part of the offense and it just isn't as potent when he's not in so why mess around? Sign the guy and give him his money! That's why he plays pro ball to earn big money! All of you nitwits who side with management need to have your heads examined!

Anyone observe Andre Johnson of the Texans in last night's game? If you did you saw an elite receiver - probably the best at this time - who makes incredible plays and performs with PROFESSIONALISM and CLASS. Note how after making the amazing catch in the endzone he just flipped the ball to the ref. No antics. Just simple "here you go. I'll be back" professional.

This is NOT DeSean Jackson. Not now. Not in the past. Not in the future. A talent? Yes. An elite receiver? Not in my book. Pay him accordingly.

Jackson is a total jacka## !!! He & Drew are going to be a bigger haedache then T.O. was. If I were in charge I would sit him(espcially for that despicable falling into the endzone Sun. night) for a quarter or 2 this coming weekend---maybe it would give him time to get over himself. Birds of a feather flock together(Drew, T.O., Ocho Chcoko Mocko, and now this jerk) ALL JACKA##'s !!!!

Just run your routes, don't give up, catch the ball and shut the f**k up...THEN you get paid. Rosenhaus and Boras need to be stuffed in a refridgerator and sent to the moon.

Why would the Eagles pay him now? To give him what he wants they'll have to give him a huge signing bonus and low base salary, which represents two problems. First say give him a $30 Million bonus and a 5 year deal that pays him $500K a year, for a total deal of $32.5M for five years. The Eagles have all the risk, laying out that much cash right away and hoping he continues to perform. Second...Desean Jackson doesn't seem like Einstein to me. How fast would he blow through that $30M buying Bentley's and "bling" for his "crew"? Two years? Maybe. Then he'll come crying to the Eagles and the media that he's being disrespected by only making $500K a year and needs his deal redone to be fair. PLEASE. Don't give this guy a contract...let him play out his contract next year, franchise him for a year (he'll get a nice one year pay), use him as best you can and then let him walk as a free agent. Let someone else pay him a huge contract. He'll be washed up and out of the league before he's 30.

it's not as if he went on a real show with this. nobody has versus in the first place. in the second place only maybe like 3 people would even watch this show. Shows like this work better when the players are having great seasons on great team- not sucking and sulking and losing like these chumps are. next question.

If he wasn't such a punk out of college, he would have gotten 1st round money. You signed it, you play it. You wouldn't be given money back if you underperformed, so tough. You'll get paid when the time is right. They took care of Westbrook, trust they'll take care of you. I don't need your whining crud when the Eagles are making a playoff push. By the way, since that nasty hit, you've been pussin' out. So, shut up and show you got what it takes.

Jackson is all speed. He doesnt run the best routes and he rufuses to catch the ball in traffic. When guys like him lose their speed what do they bring to the table? Nothing, expcept a Diva wide reciever attitude. If the Eagles are smart they will give a large contract to the complete reciever Maclin who runs great routes and can make all the catches.

I don't get athletes. They act like they are doctors teachers and great ambassadors to the world. You are lucky to have the talent that has been God given to you. You obliviously have no smarts but the talents God has given you. This game is a business and there is about to be a lockout so why do u think u are going to get a big contract. Good luck DeSean, you are talking yourself off this team. See what happened to Rosenhaus's other Eagles agent. I bleed green, not green for athletes. If athletes keep getting paid more then you are driving the fan that cant barely pay for tickets this year, away from football.

DeSean. If you want to stay in Philly and be loved by the fans, you've got to change your attitude. Did you notice the outpouring of love for Cliff Lee? He wanted to come to Philly and take much less money. That's what Philly fans want. Otherwise, your in DC with Jason Wirth who will cash large paycheck - but is that's all its about? Just the pay? That really isn't all to life. I hope some adults in your life set you straight before its too late.

DeSean wasn't lucky with where he was picked, and the contract isn't much compared to his role as a key starter. But everything he doesn't earn in the future is now on him, because going the Tochocinco route is going to cost him millions. Teams want to give the biggest contracts to the Jerry Rices, Larry Fitzgeralds and Andre Johnsons. They have to be careful with the Chad Johnsons and Terrell Owens's. Best way to have a good financial career in the NFL is to find a good agent (not Rosenhaus), play hard, stay healthy, and keep your mouth shut about contracts. If a player doesn't do those things, then he's saying the money isn't that important. DeSean has to be realistic, too, because he's not the same threat as Fitzgerald or Johnson. He's a better version of Devin Hester.

he's a moron, but he's a kid that was drafted by Andy and Co. I think that will affect the way he is dealt with by the FO - in a favorable way for Desean that is. His words don't have the effect TO's did, this team is super talented at the skill positions and they and he knows that.

I am a NY fan 100% (GOOO GIANTS) but I am not going to deny that the Eagles are a good team. I don't like this receiver and he makes me sick. I hope the Giants can take him out for good...! This is a not a one man show. DeSean still needs to grow up. I know that Eli has way too many interceptions and fumbles but the Giants are a united team. When the Giants win a game that is because everyone did a good job. If you take out Michael Vick this Eagles team is nothing more than a broken down team.

Desean surely wants to take advantage of Bush's tax cuts for the rich, which are set to expire and he will be forced to pay his fair share in order to assist the unemployed in this country who are suffering as a result of Bush and the Republicans economic policies. As a minority, Desean should see that what Bush did to our economy has hurt women and minorities more than any other group and he should want to do his fair share to provide a social safety net for those that may never be able to recover from the devastation brought on by Bush and his two illegal wars, his fealty to Big Oil, Wall Street, and Haliburton, and his sheer stupidity.
