DeSean: "I'm not talking"

POSTED: Thursday, July 29, 2010, 11:31 AM

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- It must have seemed like a mirage.

There in the distance, running on one of the fields at Lehigh, early Thursday morning, were the two Eagles veterans that skipped the last week of OTAs in June -- DeSean Jackson and Asante Samuel.

One might have been inclined to think that the Pro Bowl wide receiver and cornerback were running sprints as some form of punishment for missing OTAs, but a team source said that wasn't the case. They were simply completing the conditioning test that the rest of the team had to pass in June. According to the source, Jackson and Samuel passed and are ready to go when the full team works out Friday morning.

Jackson tweeted that he had to run 12 100-yard dashes with a 45-second rest in between each. "Ima kill it," he wrote.

When Jackson was spotted later in the day pulling into the dorm parking lot in his black Porsche, reporters approached the star receiver, who said in reply, "I'm not talking."

He then got back in his car and picked up Samuel, who was waiting nearby, and drove to another lot to park. Many of the other veterans, however, did stop to talk -- linebacker Stewart Bradley, tight end Brent Celek, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and running back LeSean McCoy were among the early arrivals. According to Celek, the Eagles are Super Bowl contenders.

"If I didn't think we could win the Super Bowl, I wouldn't be standing here," Celek said. "I would take my butt back home and sit on the couch."

Jackson and Samuel decided to skip the last week of voluntary workouts a month ago. Some believed Jackson's absence was related to his unhapiness with his contract. Sources close to the receiver said that wasn't the case. Samuel doesn't normally attend the last week of OTAs, although the team said he missed the workouts because of a death in the family.

Several other vets, meanwhile, have already checked into their dorms. The rest of the players will continue to check in throughout the day in time for a 7 p.m. team meeting.

Check back for more.

WTF philly.com Seriously weak coverage on Oswalt today. All we get is stories about Eagles players on time to camp, who the hell cares? Could it be that the Inqy is in bed with the Birds and gonna do their best to pump Eagles coverage even when we are all fixated on the Phils....as we should be.

Jimmy-go stick it princess! Apperently the only player that is/was allowed to get ripped around here is/was #5? You arseclowns are all alike--a bunch of WIP disciples. Dropping TDs in NFC championship games, spiking the ball @ the 1yd line, and doing unnecessary flips into the endzone when you haven't practiced all week doesn't sit well w/me. Too bad if some of you dopes don't like it.

What bothers me is Andy Reid....he throws 70% of the time against the Raiders (29th against the run) with Weaver and McCoy at this disposal....THAT'S what bothers me!!! Does anybody REALLY expect things to improve with him at the helm?? I think not.....

Jackson needs to shut up this season, bulk up a little because Dallas got the blue print on how to nuetralise him, he needs to get off the press, but then again if dink and dunk football is what we will be playing, may be not necessary...but shut up he must, the FO will fix his contract soone enough.

Djax is small so ya play the injury slant if you want, but you can play that for anyone. He gets open by 5 yds since dbs are so scared he will burn them deep. Once Kolb starts hittin Avant in the slot, Celek and Maclin, it will just make him that much better. If they double him then the others will kill you. Andy Reid is a top 5 coach in the league with one of the best winning %. Cant wait to see him with a new qb. Everyone cant wait to label Desean even though hes been nothing but a pro in all aspects including his bad contract so you sound like a WIP disciple Somerton

Agreed about Jackson not being able to "creat his own shot". He is shut down by superior cornerbacks. Most of of his catches and yards came early before defenses made adjustments to him. He will play the role of frustrated diva WR this year.
