Sources: DeSean's injury not serious

POSTED: Saturday, July 31, 2010, 4:08 PM

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- DeSean Jackson injured his back after he caught a pass from quarterback Kevin Kolb in the afternoon portion of Saturday's training camp practice.

The Eagles gave the injury update after practice, but said Jackson was still being evaluated. About a half hour after the update, the receiver, who hasn't spoken to reporters since he arrived at Lehigh two days ago, walked out of the locker room on his own, got into his black Porsche and sped away without comment.

Teammates and Eagles sources were saying the injury wasn't serious. Judging by the way Jackson left the practice facility, they could be right.

Kolb was asked if his heart skipped a beat when he he saw his star wide receiver go down.

"Yeah, especially for a quarterback," Kolb said, before pausing. "Yeah, you definitely need him out there."

While Jackson injured his back, he also limped off the field favoring his right leg as he leaned on a trainer. He was then helped into a cart, wheeled off the field and to the locker room. He got out of the cart without assistance but walked very slowly indoors.

The play occurred during a no-pads 7-on-7 drill. Jackson pulled in a 12-yard pass in between cornerback Asante Samuel and linebacker Omar Gaither. There didn't appear to be any contact, but Jackson looked as if he had to twist awkwardly to catch the ball. He dropped to the turf, rolled over and stayed down for several seconds before the training staff ran to him.

"I told coach, 'I didn't touch him. I don't know what happened,'" Gaither said.

As the trainers looked him over, Eagles coach Andy Reid came over to examine the scene. Jackson eventually got up, but he was wobbly and looked as if he might fall over again. He was visably disraught as he was carted away.

He is fine, dude is in excellent condition. 10 just doesn't want to practice and he is trying to prove a point that he needs some financial security right now. Watch!!!!

redecredico: Idoit, you read carefully my post, you will notice the word "contact" instead of contract. A contract is a legally binding document between two or more parties which is enforceable by law or biding arbitration. Whereas, contact is: A coming together or touching, as of objects or surfaces

I would not be surprised if this wasn't related to his desire to renegotiate. The team has plenty of good options at wideout. Maclin can fill his spot and Avant is a reliable option on the other side. Avant can also block, and the new kid from FLA seems to enjoy getting physical, too. Jackson better watch out before his position on the depth chart starts sinking. A new QB means everybody has a chance to become the favorite reciever. You can't become that guy if you are not on the field, DeSean.

Joe Banner is probably thanking his lucky stars right now that he didn't give Jackson a new contract.

Hey McnabbtoMoss, I think your mom is calling you from the upstairs, it’s time for dinner. Get out of the basement and have some human contact. So if i get this right you were’t happy that desean got hurt you were just happy that kolb threw the ball that he got hurt catching. Well that makes sense, kinda like saying that you were glad that a cadillac had a malfunction that caused it to catch fire but it’s a shame about the people inside the car. Please just go back to sleep. Are you a Redskins fan? Who is your team? If you are a redskins fan you got a lot of guts calling eagles fans losers…… What was the redskins record last year?????

Don't feed the trolls boys, that's exactly what they want. See, McnabbtoMoss is like a zoo animal, if you throw food into the cage, he's/she's going to eat it up and want more, and never quite be satisfied. The fact that he/she spends his/her time on a website dedicated to a team that he/she despises says enough about said mcnabbtomoss, he's/she's obviously a small person, i.e. napoleon complex type of guy/gal, last to be picked at sports as a kid, had to get his/her parents to buy the bball or football so the rest of the neighborhood kids would play with him/her. And btw, I was giving you the benefit of the doubt by using the male pronoun, we're all pretty sure 'her/she/gal' is more accurate when referring to you.

mcnabbtomoss if you don’t care about the past of the redskins why to care so much about the past of the eagles?? you keep saying kolb is an interception machine, can’t throw, blah, blah blah, so you must be judging him on PAST performances!!! Please make up your mind.

And before all of the unofficial doctors on this sight start submitting their prognosis', lets wait till the educated, paid, extremely successful and generally correct EAGLE DOCTORS assess 1yard. And if I had to throw my opinion out there, he's not faking anything to get a better contract. He's already said he understands the 30% rule and knows that he's going to be in this league for awhile, a la Steve Smith, and will get paid. If he plays the 'good son' this year, shuts up (which is awesome that he's doing that already), Banner's going to give him more. And we'll be watching him drop td's on the 1 yard line for years!
