Sources: DeSean's injury not serious

POSTED: Saturday, July 31, 2010, 4:08 PM

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- DeSean Jackson injured his back after he caught a pass from quarterback Kevin Kolb in the afternoon portion of Saturday's training camp practice.

The Eagles gave the injury update after practice, but said Jackson was still being evaluated. About a half hour after the update, the receiver, who hasn't spoken to reporters since he arrived at Lehigh two days ago, walked out of the locker room on his own, got into his black Porsche and sped away without comment.

Teammates and Eagles sources were saying the injury wasn't serious. Judging by the way Jackson left the practice facility, they could be right.

Kolb was asked if his heart skipped a beat when he he saw his star wide receiver go down.

"Yeah, especially for a quarterback," Kolb said, before pausing. "Yeah, you definitely need him out there."

While Jackson injured his back, he also limped off the field favoring his right leg as he leaned on a trainer. He was then helped into a cart, wheeled off the field and to the locker room. He got out of the cart without assistance but walked very slowly indoors.

The play occurred during a no-pads 7-on-7 drill. Jackson pulled in a 12-yard pass in between cornerback Asante Samuel and linebacker Omar Gaither. There didn't appear to be any contact, but Jackson looked as if he had to twist awkwardly to catch the ball. He dropped to the turf, rolled over and stayed down for several seconds before the training staff ran to him.

"I told coach, 'I didn't touch him. I don't know what happened,'" Gaither said.

As the trainers looked him over, Eagles coach Andy Reid came over to examine the scene. Jackson eventually got up, but he was wobbly and looked as if he might fall over again. He was visably disraught as he was carted away.

Jackson is pretty much the offense, it wouldn't be good.

I love the Eagles but was never a McNabb fan, I was one of them booing him when he was selected. Whoever watched Eagles football knows that the wide receivers had to be acrobats to catch anything thrown to them by McNabb, it was either over their head or at their feet. I am looking forward to seeing Kolb play. I won't have to watch McNabb gasping for air after every play, sometimes I didn't think he would make it through the next play! Conditioning, like it did him any good in the superbowl, we all know what happened there.

For the record, it appears he is going to be ok from all accounts. And to all of you that are saying it was because he had to reach for a bad pass... "Looking on from the behind the line of scrimmage, quarterback Kevin Kolb felt his heat rate pick up a bit when his completion to Jackson resulted in his No. 1 receiver leaving practice early. Kolb, by the way, thread the needle and zipped the pass between two defenders about as close as it can to still be completed". On another note, I think Riley Cooper will unseat Baskett as the #4, like the toughness...
