DeSean: I'll talk "closer to the regular season"
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- DeSean Jackson briefly broke his vow of silence to reveal when he would permanently break his no-talking stance this training camp.
"I'll talk with y'all closer to the regular season," Jackson said as he got into his black, four-door Porsche Monday following afternoon practice. "Nothing against you guys."
The Eagles star wide receiver hasn't answered questions from reporters since he arrived at camp less than two weeks ago. He has refused most requests with a simple shake of the head. Eagles coach Andy Reid said recently that Jackson wasn't talking because he was focused on football and didn't want to have to answer questions about his contract situation.
Asked if that was the case, Jackson responded, "That's what I got an agent for."
Told by a reporter that his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, never returns calls, Jackson laughed.
A message left with Rosenhaus, by the way, was not immediately returned.
Jackson is in the third-year of the four-year, $3.058 million contract he signed as a rookie. During the off-season he admitted several times that he was dissastified with his deal. For the most part, however, he has not made waves.
Jackson arrived early for camp because he and cornerback Asante Samuel had to complete the off-season conditioning test they missed when they skipped the last week of spring workouts. Jackson strained his lower back on the first day of full pads hitting. He sat out for six days but returned Friday and has looked his old speedy self since then.
"I'm working hard," Jackson said. "I'm just trying to win a Super Bowl -- nothing else."
I still am shocked that the media and most internet marks will try with all their might to make Desean look like a problem or another T.O. I just wish that more professional athleats would just shut up and work hard, just like D-Jax. jaydes
Good for him. The media always needs some sort of drama. I guess manufacturing stories is easier then doing research. Vote for Dickie
Seriously, I hope he never talks to the media - same goes for everyone else on the team. Nothing good ever comes of talking to the sports writers in this town. Doesn't matter what you say, they'll find a way of making it sound bad. duder
D-Jax is way underpaid. He'll have another monster year, no doubt about it. 46 and 2

What does keeping silent to reporters and fans have to do with his contract? He can just say, I won't answer questions about my contract. Instead, he has to be big-headed and arrogant and take his frustrations out on us fans. WE SUPPORT HIM and a new contract! Why is he treated us like this, we have nothing to do with his contract? ej610
And I'll start commenting "closer to the regular season." ahab
@ej610... I don't think he's being big-headed or arrogant, he simply knows that the only questions the media want to ask him are about his contract in their unending attempt to stir up a controversy. So why even bother ? phillyjim7
Your tryna concentrate on fball as u SHOULD b doing..n they wanna distract u with button-pushn ?s 2get u off ur square.Typical big worm
ej610, do you really think that any of the reporters would respect his wish to not talk contract? Seriously, every nat'l reporter will ask him the same thing, philly reporters will too (hence, they are still asking him questions every day even though they know he's not talking to them)...and frankly, you sound like the big-headed one thinking Djax owes you daily comments to the media...is he really going to say anything new each day? All any of us should be happy with is no hold out and td's come sept! Bleue
DeSean Jackson will have another monster year and get a monster deal when there is a new CBA deal in place after the season. Hopefully, the eagles will pay him like a top 5 wide receiver because desean is a beast. briandawkins20
wise move DJ. And no, the eagles should not rush to fork over big money to a man (165 lb at best no matter how talented) who is just one solid hit away from missing major time due to concussion or who hasn't demonstrated he can consistently break free from tight physical coverage. barrywil

DeSean Jackson can do anything he wants and everyone else can shut the hell up about it. That's how good he is. bc3030
