DeSean to report Monday
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- DeSean Jackson will report to Eagles training camp on Monday, according to a source close to the wide receiver.
Jackson has already missed the first 11 days of camp. He is believed to want a new contract. The four-year receiver must report to Lehigh University by Tuesday if he doesn't want to forfeit a year toward free agency.
A message left Jackson's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was not immediately returned Saturday.
The Eagles have not started negotiations with Jackson over an extension, a team source said. The team typically does not negotiate with holdouts, a stance reiterated by Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie on Thursday. Jackson is in the last year of a four-year deal he signed as a rookie. He is slated to earn approximately $600,000 in base salary this season.
The Eagles don't practice Tuesday but have 8:05 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. practices scheduled for Monday. It is unclear if Jackson will be able to participate in either session.
He better have been working out. Need to knock the dust off him to prevent injury. DRCarlson
DeSean is a cry-baby. Nobody said he had to be football player. He chose it and is making more money than 99.9% of the world right now. So, he has performed higher than his contract- who cares? If he under-performs his contract, does he return any money? Let him find something where he'll be more "appreciated"- like working for a living like the rest of us. rwolffd12- Not really that much interested in D-Jax's contract situation, that'll take care of itself.
...but rwolffd12, by your logic, D-Jax should remain underpaid while the money he is asking for should stay in the hands of someone who makes more money than 99.999999% of the world then?
Besides, when did it become wrong for an employee to ask for a raise when he deserves it?
...and we wonder why the income gap steadily increases without people doing anything about it. - Trade him for someone who cares about the team. thomdee
you tell 'em Jeffy ! byteme2000
Of course he is, being fined $30k a day for not being there, that's a lot of 'making it rain' and bottle service at the clubs he's going to be missing out on. And the fact that Lurie flat out said they don't negotiate with holdouts, he wants his money, he's gotta be there. He'll get his guaranteed, and as it was said above, he's making a lot more than the rest of us, show some appreciation for a change. Bleue
f DeSean. Memphis Bill
He'll be in Monday night, probably. So what? Birds have something good going and he's going to be part of it one way or another. Hope Andy works him as hard as the p*ssy new CBA allows come Tuesday. He wasn't going to miss that year towards FA and it's all going to be moot and forgotten when he gets a deal from them anyway. PhillySubsMac
Jets just gave Santonio Holmes a 5 year $50 million deal, that averages to $10 million per season.....DeSean only makes $500,000 this season.
DeSean needs to make the same as Santonio Holmes....$10 million for this season. frank105
He'll get 10 million a year or more. The first time he gets hit hard he'll be done and the eagles will lose out on all the guaranteed money they give him. Why dont these players ever play out their original contracts? ALL A BUNCH OF WHINNERS!! nonshad- Limited number of years of earning power. Risking injury is foolish. Simple economics of the game.
Comment removed.- It is NOT "Customary" to redo deals. This whole nonesense of "out perfomring a contract" came from TO and and his arrogant agent Drew Rosenhaus. It didn't work then and it won't work now. Djax has great talent and a questionable everthing else. That is why he isn't getting paid more...he dropped in the draft and has no one to blame that on but himself. Shut up, show up, honor the deal that you agreed to and you will be rewarded when the time comes.

ShhSean outperformed his contract for three out of the four years and it's time he gets his money. Perhaps they can ask him to mature a little with his new found wealth, since he hasn't outperformed in that part of his life. The guy is in incredible shape and he won't miss a beat. All you fools will be cheering him come Game 1. Voytas
All this nonsense about you have a contract, you make more than most people... Those same contracts were in place when the owners decided to lock players out to get more money. Disrupted entire offseason over their greed. Now these owners are gonna steal regular season ticket prices for a game on only a few days practice. bababooey2yall
600G is a joke considering what an equivalent WR in the league makes.
The lad deserves a raise. You shelled out tons of money for players who have never contribuled to the Eagles so do the right thing FO. tpizza

The Eagles have often given good young players long term contgracts, so why have they not given DJAX his even before this? How many other WR's are better than him in the league? Maybe 3-5 at most. Sign him!! He and Vick are the gamebreakers on this team! ol duke- Not too surprising this comes out shortly after Vick's said his contract's being looked at. Wouldn't be surprised if this was Vick's way of telling DeSean "come back, and they'll work it out". With the great QB-to-WR rating Vick and DeSean had last season, I doubt the Eagles wouldnt want to commit to him for longer than a year. MaartenV
Really disappointed in all the postings so far! Don't you people realize that: 1) There were/are League rules governing what players of his status could do regarding contracts! And many times it was printed here in these pages! 2) If there was any legal WAY he could have gotten more money in his second or third or fourth year...Banner would have JUMPED at the chance to do so! Keeping this guy paid well WHEN POSSIBLE is one of managements priorities. I'm surprised Rosenscrewallayas hasn't been in touch about the next contract yet. TBear
Bottom line. He's reporting on Monday. He will get his new contract extension( he has outplayed it) and the Eagles will be one of the most exciting teams to watch this season. I don't blame Jackson. He is a vital part to this teams success! The team is together now win the SB this year!! komplex2005
He knows the offense, so there's nothing lost by him being a few days late. He's showing up b/c he wants to get this year's credit towards free agency and b/c the Eagles won't negotiate with a holdout. He won't get what he wats (5yrs., $60M, 30 guaranteed), but he'll get a new deal worth 50 normal folk's retirement funds. Most importantly, he'll be there, fully ready to go, on opening day. HorshamGuy
He'll show on Monday, fain an injury and play very little over the next few weeks. If he has any sense he won't return a kick or punt or run a route over the middle until he gets a new contract. He should run strictly fly patterns and side line patterns and get the hell out of bounds as soon as he touches the ball. No logic is risking a career ending injury for one year at $565K. bluebellious
Horsham,
Rosenhaus won't let him sign a deal like you suggest! He'll tell him to buy insurance and play out his contract, without returning punts, or kickoffs. He'll get the big money afterwards. bluebellious
tell the punk to stay home puddin
D. Jackson deserves a new deal. Period. Now, that being said, it certainly appears as though he was avoiding training camp until the last possible moment. I understand that if he doesn't report by Monday or possibly Tuesday, he would be ineligible to become a free agent after this season if a new contract wasn't signed. I know that he doesn't want to get injured under his old contract ( a serious injury would hinder the chances of any major $$), but it just makes him look like another lazy football player not wanting to go to training camp. Just get the darn deal done so everyone....especially the fans...can be happy! CTeaglefn
Djax's agent Drew Rosenhaus is giving him the wrong advise by holding out when he comes to camp the Eagles will hammer out a new contract and he will get about 30 million over 5 years with a 15 million dollar signing bonus. shoreclubmiami66
desean is all about himself and not the team. he could get paid and still be a team player. but his selfish attitude won't allow for that.remember when TO held out but westbrook reported? who got paid? edthefish
This never happens in baseball because the contracts are guaranteed. If teams couldn't cut players to avoid paying the contracts, players wouldn't hold out. Look at the Carson Palmer situation. His team won't trade or release him because he signed a contract and he should honor it. But every time a team, including the Bengals, cuts a player, they are violating the contract. It's hypocrisy. That being said, DJax is an Eagle, not a Bengal, and he would have a new deal already if he had reported. Scorekeeper
With Maclin's illness, The Eagles have no choice but to give him a new contract. I'm not a big Jackson guy but he definetly deseves a raise. Geno D
