DeSean stands by Vick "comfortable" comment

POSTED: Friday, November 9, 2012, 2:42 PM

DeSean Jackson stood by the comment he made over a week ago that he thought Michael Vick wasn't "as comfortable as he usually is" running the Eagles offense.

Some interpreted the wide receiver's response, given when he was asked by NFL Network about the quarterback, as Jackson criticizing Vick.

"I just stated what it was. I'm real and I can do that," Jackson said Friday. "I feel like as long as I've been here and done what I've done for the city, I [could say] he wasn't comfortable in the pocket because of blitzes and certain things.

"It's nothing bad against him, it's just him seeing a lot of different crazy things. That's something we have to do as a team, coaches and with the scheme to make sure he's comfortable."

Jackson made his original comment before the Eagles lost to the Saints, 28-13, on Monday night. Vick completed 22 of 41 passes for 272 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception in New Orleans, but he was under constant duress mostly because of the issues on the offensive line.

In a separate interview last week with The Inquirer, Jackson gave backup Nick Foles a vote of confidence and said that he thought the rookie quarterback would be ready if needed. But he also maintained his allegiance to Vick as he did again this Friday.

"Yeah, definitely," Jackson said. "It's just been times when there's been some things he's struggled with. But as a professional he knows what he needs to do, and I think he'll get it done."

Vick may be running out of time to get it done. The closer the Eagles get to being eliminated from playoff contention the closer Andy Reid will be forced to go with Foles.

The 3-5 Eagles host the 3-5 Cowboys on Sunday. The Eagles swept Dallas last season. Jackson has had some memorable games against the NFC East rival. He's also been shut down by the Cowboys in several meetings.

Jackson, who leads the Eagles with 37 catches for 624 yards, is on pace to set career marks in both categories. He hasn't dropped a pass all season. He said he isn't concerned with individual accolades, however, and just wants to end the Eagles' four-game losing streak.

"We're just trying to win games, bro, that's all," Jackson said. "That's all that matters to me right now. You can't worry about anything else. We got to worry about our job, working hard and winning."

Does anyone think Vick looks comfortable out behind that line??? No? Then why can't Desean say that? He generally has half of the time he needs on every play. Not to mention that Vick said he's not comfortable... what's the big deal?

He can stand with Vick in the unemployment line. D-Jax is nothing more than a cancer.

Fans don't know what they want. If a player declines an interview or doesn't say anything, he is viewed as arrogant. If he does speak the truth he gets ridiculed Philly, you can't have it both ways.

Desean is emblematic of the sorry state of this team. Admits he didn't try hard last year and -- backed by our genius of a head coach -- gets a new contract.

Some of these comments are as transparently bad as this team is. These caveman rants actually do less for this city than Desean has. I agree they should fire the coach but they should send a lot fans with him, comments like these make Desean sound like he spends his free time feeding the homeless. We hide behind this excuse that we are passionate fans, but no one seems to agree for two reasons, the first is because most of us don't even know what the word means and second is because they are right. We're not passionate, we are a bunch of idiots.

Desean has been playing statistically well this year. Maybe if Vick had a line, Jackson wouldn't be in this position?

Desean needs to shut up. He is a non-factor this season. The only one who could throw the ball to him was McNabb and he threw McNabb under the bus.

Desean you don't seem comfortable going across the middle or running your route unless its a streak. Do you know a hot route, if so run one when they are blitzing, meaning its a quick read and you run a slant how about that

I for one don't want MV getting comfortable in the pocket. I don't want him to be there for much longer. It's almost the Nick of time, and it can't come too soon for me. In the meantime, "IN JAWS I TRUST!"

one way I interpret this is that it's as much a crack at the scheme as Vick... I'm not a basher of coaches and players, but have believed for a long time that Reid should adjust to Vick's strengths and exigent circumstances (the injuries to the 0 line) and run more of a
run first offense. Ever since the Minnesota game two years ago it was obvious how Defenses would attack the Eagles, and AR and MM haven't adjusted. So either adjust the O or try Foles, who might be more of a traditional WC qb.

A BETTER solution is to just fire Reid after the season's over hire a REAL football coach like Gruden who'll put together a staff that will make the Eagles competitive and respectful again. And, I'm willing to bet, will win a Super Bowl trophy in less than FOURTEEN YEARS.

Desean are u kidding me...of all people who should just shut up its you....were your teammates selling you out last year when you QUIT on them??....when you stole your paycheck last year?...when you told you coach and your teammates that you were more important then them by not showing up week after week??.....Just shut up you and your attitude are a major part of the problem not the solution. One of the Eagles big mistakes was rewarding you with a new contract they should have sent you packing!!

I feel for you sports writers trying to wring a piece of news out of some statement which seemed perfectly clear the first time he said it and you tried to wring something out of it. But there isn't much to talk about anymore until Lurie does what he promised to and fire Reid for not improving the team this year. Lurie's word that he cares about this team is now worth nothing.

DeSean, with all that's been happening this season, all the negative media, all the distractions, all the injuried, and all the disappointment and frustration, do you REALLY need to fuel the fire by opening your mouth again for another unnecessary interview? It doesn;t matter if you are right, if you are keeping it real, or whatever. This is simply going to distract your teammates from focusing on football, and getting a much-needed win against Dallas. So STFU, my friend, and let your game do all the talking.
