DeSean on NFL Network: "Next question"

POSTED: Thursday, December 15, 2011, 5:17 PM

Should the Eagles try to retain DeSean Jackson in the offseason?
Yes. He’s having a down year, but he’s a game-changing playmaker.
No. He’s too inconsistent and too much of a headache.
Let’s see how he and the team finish the season.

DeSean Jackson preferred not to discuss the NFL Network's depiction of his sideline demeanor during the Eagles game at Seattle two weeks ago.

The Eagles wide receiver hasn't spoken with the media since he abruptly ended his post-game interview after the loss to the Seahawks. So he never had a chance to properly defend his action -- or non-action -- during the Seattle game and the NFL Network report that he was ignoring quarterback Vince Young and his teammates.

So did Jackson think the depiction was fair?

“Next question.”

Well, did he appreciate that Eagles coach Andy Reid stuck up for him the day after the game and said that the NFL Network's report was erroneoushe and that he was all-in?

"Next question."

Earlier, Jackson was asked about Sunday's game against the New York Jets and whether he expected cornerback Darrelle Revis to cover him. Revis, considered by many the be the best corner in the NFL, typically plays man-to-man defense against the opposing team's best receiver.

“I don’t know, really,” Jackson said. “I don’t know. ... If that’s what he usually do, that’s what he usually do."

Revis plays opposite Antonio Cromartie, giving the Jets one of the best cornerback tandems in the league.

“They’re good corners," Jackson said. "I’m not going to put nothing past that, though. It’s the NFL so that’s what we expect.”

Jackson's season obviously hasn't gone as he would have liked. The Eagles are 5-8 and nearly eliminated from the playoffs, Jackson's numbers are down almost all across the board and he still doesn't have that contract extension he originally held out from training camp for.

Still, he has three games remaining to prove his worth -- if not to the Eagles, to other teams that may have the opportunity to sign him as a free agent. Performing well against Revis and the Jets would be a good start.

“My mindset is great," Jackson said. "I’m just coming to work, having fun, doing everything I need to do to stay out of the way. … As far as anything else, mindset-wise, I don’t get caught up in that.”

I thought the last game was against the dolphins. Why are they still asking him questions about two weeks ago? Nothing better to do?

Is your english so good, you can critize others.....maybe you should look in the mirror and see if your spelling or education level warrants any criticism.....and finally he is ignoring those who only want to besmirch him...(do you understand that word genius or do you even know how to look it up in a dictionary).....

The Eagles screwed this up by signing Steve Smith and not giving DJax an extension. Still, DJax is a grown man and needs to act like it. I feel bad for the guy, relatively speaking. (It's hard to feel bad for someone making $600K a year). I think what all of this proves is that Drew Rosenhaus is a very bad agent.

Why is no one talking about his last comment?..."Doing everything I need to do to stay out of the way." stay out of the way? This is why he isn't getting an extension. He is a punk who proved to be a me, me, I, I player. This year isn't the first he's had Ricky waters arms.

GO DESEAN GO! Who cares what the Eagles do or do not do for you? Real fans know that you are going to thrive and prosper in the NFL going forward. The stupidity of the Eagles shouldn't stop you from 'doing you' so keep being D-Jax and rain on these (foes)!!!

Contrary to what he wants you to believe, he did not come into camp on good faith. Under the new CBA, he would have been fined his full $600K in a matter of a few weeks for holding out. So he came in & did nothing to risk injury. Truth is no one knows how those negotiations went b/c god forbid anyone tell the fans anything in this city. Yes he is underpaid, but was Rosenhaus being reasonable in their demands? There is no way the Eagles were just going to add to his salary this year with no add'l commitment from DeSean. It's never been done in the history of sports. My guess is they offered him a Kevin Kolb type 2 year deal and he wouldn't take it. He wants to be an FA & his 2011 performance has all but guaranteed the Eagles will not franchise him. We'll see if his faith in DR is rewards as TO's was. I don't even care at this point.

I kind of like the irony that Jackson has resorted to the rosenhaus school of media mgt with the "next question" technique.
I also am amazed why people are so shocked about the way some athletes talk. Just like your avg person, most of them are not that smart. They don't need to be when they have the freakish skills it takes to make the NFL.

Jackson went to UC Berkeley. You have to wonder if he did anything there besides playing football.

Djax is finished as an Eagle and his poor attitude may diminish elite nfl teams from looking at him. He obviously did not pay attention to the post philly career of TO, locker room distraction. I say let him go.

Amazing how you go from two time pro bowler and first player in nfl history to go in two positions to no production in contract year. Serioulsy? Eagles are not puting desean in position for the ball. They want his numbers down to pick him up at bargain basement price next year. The eagles have turned the best wide reciever we have had in a decade into a decoy on deep routes. He could have held out but plays every week. Maybe you should go and sprint 40-50 yds thirty times in 30 minutes and lets see if your all in.
