DeSean Jackson says Rob Ryan's comments were "uncalled for"
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Michael Vick, who had choice words for Rob Ryan in training camp after the Dallas defensive coordinator took a shot at the "all-hype" Eagles, took the high road on Wednesday when Dallas-area reporters rehashed Ryan's August comments.
But DeSean Jackson said Thursday that Ryan's words were "uncalled for" because he was a coach and the Eagles wide receiver wouldn't have the opportunity to give Ryan "a shot" for saying "something crazy."
"For a coach to really say that, it's hard for me to kind of respect that because the coach is not really out there playing," Jackson said. "He's doing a good job of calling plays, putting his defense in the right position to stop the offense. You know, as far as the defensive coordinator to predict that, that's unheard of, uncalled for.
"It'll be good if his players said that, then I could I understand that. We're out there on the field with him so I would able to get a chance to get a shot at that player if he said something crazy. But for a coach, it ain't like I can run on the sideline and tackle the coach or run past him and score a touchdown."
The two teams face off for the first time this season Sunday night at Lincoln Financial Field. Both squads have had disappointing starts. The Eagles are 2-4 and the Cowboys 3-3, but the Eagles' slow start has generated great interest around the league because of the "Dream Team" roster they assembled.
Ryan mocked Vince Young's unfortunate July comparison between the Eagles and the 1992 U.S. Olympic men's basketball team and after the team became the toast of the NFL during the preseason.
"I don't know if we win the all-hype team," Ryan told reporters then in a thickly veiled shot at the Eagles. "I think that might have gone to somebody else, but we're going to beat their ass when we play them."
And Ryan was right.... DontTreadonme
The dream team reference was to the miami heat adding free agents, not the olympic team. P Even- i like all the trash talk. they should retire micheal irvin's stretcher before the game.
If you thought Vick's dog-fights were brutal, wait till you see the Boys stomp the Eagles. 4 wins in a row?? I can already hear the calls for Reid's head. DallasRules
Buddy was an embarrassment to the organization but his players loved him and played their hearts out for him. Reid will go down as greatest coach in Eagles history on record alone. Numbers don't lie. I was a long time Cowboys fan growing up in Mesquite. After finding this great Yankee gal I learned to be an Eagles fan. Tom Landry was my idea of a coach. Andy has his faults but has been better in his job than you have been in yours. We are very fortunate to have good coaching. We could be the skins. Hatfield_ham
Another Ryan with a big mouth and a big gut. chops10
DeSean at once just explained why you should ignore comments like the ones Ryan made and exemplified just how he doesn't get it. As a player you indeed cannot do anything about what a coach says. Nothing. And that's why you should ignore it. If you don't ignore it you find you can't do anything about it, and that's FRUSTRATING. Ryan frustrates his opponents. His opponents start games by feeling frustrated. Frustration is a feeling of powerlessness. Ryan makes you powerless with his junk talk. HeelYes
hey djax...rob ryan's b.s. is bigger than his watermelon gut...with that stringy, greasy looking gray hair and that gut how can you can take him seriously??/you don't...just whip their butts on sunday jabac
This will be fat Rob Ryan's (the corpulent Custer of pro football) last stand. Eagles will roll, Andy is 12-0 off the bye and Tony will throw 3 picks, wah wah America's criminal team. BirdinParadise
Hey Ollie, check out the '91 Eagles D and get back to us. That was the best D the Eagles ever had and that loud mouth Buddy still botched it up. Joe Gibbs showed him what a real coach could do besides talk. Sons are no better. Just a lot of hot air, so much so that if they weren't as fat as pigs they'd float away. Rob Ryan? Aunt Bee talkin' smack, that's all he is. Ryans = losers, plain and simple. tpizza- I have an idea. Why don't you get a clue. See my post about stupid worthless fans who don't even know what they saw. Bud Carson was the DC and Kotite was the Head Coach in '91 when the Eagles had that defense. Do you know who Bud Carson is little boy? He coached this defense that some people called the Steel Curtain? Does it ring a bell?
UncleStosh
You're right stosh. I stand corrected. It was the 90 team that lost to Gibbs and the 91 team that had that great D. How's that stosh? Now see my post about people on this site that exibit the manners of a Neaderthal. Does the shoe fit? A simple correction would have sufficed but you instantly resorted to prototypical Philly boorish behavior. Now go to bed without your dinner youngster. You can come out when you apologize. tpizza
I am an Eagles fan and was a Buddy fan, and I remember the body bag game. If I was Djax, I'd keep my head on a swivel, because all of the Ryan family teams hit. The Eagles are not that type of team anymore. watsonmr
Nah, never liked the guy Watsonmr. Big mouth buffoon IMO. I remember him sucker punching Gilbride. Really classless move. School yard bully, kids are the same. One hit wonder in Chicago but couldn't match up to the better coacheslike Gibbs. Stosh is correct in that Carson took the same players and turned them into a fearsome D. The game I remember most is against Houston in the Dome. Monday night game? Roughest game I ever watched. I think I was black and blue the next day from just watching it. Oh well, just another chapter in what could have been, no? tpizza
