DeSean to sign franchise tender soon

DeSean Jackson will sign the Eagles' franchise tag tender very soon, perhaps sometime over the next few days, according to NFL sources.

Jackson's signing of the one-year tender was widely expected, although the Pro Bowl wide receiver has made it no secret that he would prefer to ink a long-term deal.

The one-year figure for franchise tagged receivers is $9.515 million, which would be more than three times what Jackson made in his first four seasons in the NFL.

Once Jackson signs the tender he is no longer an unrestricted free agent, although the Eagles' tagging of the 25-year-old essentially took him off the market. Both the Eagles and Jackson have said that they wish to work a multi-year deal out before a July 16 deadline, although the sides remain far apart.

With Jackson in tow the Eagles are unlikely to do much in free agency at the wide receiver position. Free agency begins at 4 p.m. today.

Trade him for picks (2 & 3/4).Draft a wr and sign plax. This team needs to score in the red zone and Desean gives you nothing there, sure some home runs but they are far and few between since the big hits he suffered. Use Shady and Celek in the middle of field and if you draft a speedy wr he might hit a few long balls since teams won't respect him yet and roll coverage like they did with desean....really time to trade him wish it worked out but now is time to do it. Look at all the hold out cancers and what they do why risk that?

After seeing all of the WR's sign mega deals right out of the gate and the market for FA WR's quickly dry up. No way DeSean Jackson signs the franchise tender now. He's going to refuse to sign it and force the Eagles to either give him a huge contract extension or trade him. The Eagles have very little leverage now because all of the other WR options are now off the market. They have no other options. Get ready for a bitter hold out and a long contract dispute. DeSean and Drew Rosenhaus are going to do a replay of the T.O. debacle. The Eagles should've resigned DeSean last year. Now they're either going to grossly overpay to keep him or they're going to be forced to trade him for two mid-round draft picks. But, the Eagles front-office is so smart.

Some of you think DJax isn't worth his asking price, What's the Eagles record in Games Djax hasn't played? Without Djax on the field the opposing safety is up in the box keying on Shady.

Shady gets into the second level because opposing Safeties cheat over to cover Djax.

Chad Hall is not going to command the same respect from defenses in the NFL, nor will Maclin.

The Eagles had better use pick 15 to hit big with a Receiver that can come in an compete for a Starting job, someone that can replace Djax's speed. It's obvious they do not think he's worth the money he and his agent are going to command. They had better work on getting a replacement in the draft and pray he works out. If not this is the last year of any Eagles Fastbreak Offense.

Jackson went to Tampa Bay for $50 Million, $21 Guaranteed. Garcon from Indy got $42, and $21 Guaranteed from the Redskins. DJax get's $9.1 for this year, Next year the Eagles are going to have to come in the neighborhood of $52 Million, and $25 guaranteed to keep DJax.

They could have extended him last year for three years and given the kid $17 Million and $30 Million over 3 years in a deal, but No they dithered around and paid other free agents and pissed the kid off.

The Eagles screwed up with DJax. His meter is running and the cost isn't coming down judging by the contract other free agent receivers are obtaining thus far this year. If I were DJax I wouldn't sign for less than what Tampa is paying Vince Jackson.

If DJax isn't in Eagles Green or a comparable receiver with his speed, the Eagles offense just isn't going to be the same.

Miles, please look at the gamesthat Desean did not play in, like the Arizona game. The receivers coldnot get open, the line wasstackedwhich nullified our running attack. D. Jax opens the field up. He makesplayswith or without the ball. Jeremy Maclin isnot fast enough to be an effective down the fieldthreat. He is a solid # 2. I like Maclin in the role he is in but heis not a game changer as a # 1. There is areason he has no pro bowls under his belt. We have to be realistic, D Jax will be here next year. Therewill be no trades, the big wide receivers people wanted are off the market. We can draft a big ,fast receiver to compliment our receiver corp, including D.Jax. We do not have to play addition by subtraction here. Desean will bean Eagle, it's time to get over it!!!

If my boss and local media had that much incertitude in my character and play for this team in this town, I would not sign it. I say hold out to go to an accepting team.

I don't understand the whole "Desean makes the offense better by just being out there" theory. Let's say they trade Desean and sign a big possession receiver, i.e Vincent Jackson. Maclin could assume the deep threat role, he's got the speed. Maybe not DJax speed, but he is definitely fast enough for that role. Then you have a big possesion receiver (something the eagles have been lack since Pinkston, jk hahaha) and a deep threat to spread the field. I'm just saying, that's all.

"With Jackson in tow the Eagles are unlikely to do much in free agency at the wide receiver position." great there goes our Plaxico dreams down the drain for the second year in a row.

Check out the final number on Colston when they come out.... that is what DJax market value will be. First report was $40M over 5 years but the real numbers will be less.

No one is going to give up two 1st round picks and sign him AND give him the money he wants...what is he waiting for?

The sooner he signs it, the sooner Howie baby can trade him for a 2nd round pick to draft a 220# LB.
    Only in Philly...
