Curtis and Gaither have surgery
Jeff McLane, Inquirer Staff Writer
Wide receiver Kevin Curtis had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, Eagles coach Andy Reid said today. Reid said that he had no idea when Curtis would be back playing, but that he anticipated a return before the end of the season.
"I think time will tell here, but I think so," Reid said.
Curtis had missed the last three games with the knee injury, but team MRIs never revealed more than inflammation.
"They didn't see much in the MRI," Reid said. "MRIs don't always show everything so they went in and just checked things out. There wasn't too much in there that they had to work on. They just snipped a few little things in there, but it wasn't a major thing."
Rookie Jeremy Maclin started in his place and will continue to do so. Curtis' absence means that Reggie Brown will be activated for the second straight week as the team's fourth wide receiver. The Eagles traded away rookie Brandon Gibson earlier this week for linebacker Will Witherspoon.
As expected, Omar Gaither had surgery on his left foot to correct a Lisfranc fracture. Reid hasn't ruled out a return for the middle linebacker, but he said it is highly unlikely.
"Right now it doesn't look good, but we'll see," Reid said.
The offensive line, meanwhile, took another hit. Guard Max Jean-Gilles was held of out of team drill portion of practice today with a right shoulder injury and was listed as questionable for Monday night's game at Washington. Reid said that Todd Herremans, back from a foot injury, will start at left guard and Nick Cole will start at right guard. With Jean-Gilles likely out, Herremans will probably play the entire game. Reid said that Stacy Andrews could spell Cole a few series at right guard.
Cornerback Dimitri Patterson (quadriceps) is also listed as out for the Redskins game.
Get us a 'W' Monday night, Birds. Get us a 'W'. wondo40
Why does this coach Reid burn up the team with such a greuling summer camp. Its one of the five toughest camps in the league, and the team still comes out flat every year anyway, and banged up to boot. starbird
Comment removed.- This team has virtually no chance of ever beating Saints or Vikings, probably can't beat Giants. What's the point? Play Kolb and McCoy. trade McBust and Westy, get rid of Morningwig and hire an offensive coordinator that will RUN the ball!
Not a lot of good to say, hopefully they start winning, we can only hope!!! DJ
Please Jon Runyan, come help us. Call me. Andy Reid. hallux
Once a strength now the wide receiver corps are very thin. Hank baskett, Greg Lewis, Kevin Curtis, brandon Gibson. Wow we know how to fire through our skill positions. Way to plan ahead Andy! I guess the witherspoon trade with Omar done was a necessity. If we didn't sign vick, baskett would still be here though. Did we really need mike vick? CaptainCrunch

Did anyone really predict this team to go further than 9 and 7 this season anyway? I said it once and I'll say it again; until the dupes dump their season tickets for good and all that sits is an empty stadium for each home game, nothing will change. The problem starts at the top with Lurie and Banner. I don't understand why people continue to support an inferior prouct year after year. For a team that's been around as long as the Eagles have and sitting in a division alongside teams that have won a ring multiple times says an awful lot about the ownership and management. Wolman,Tose,Braman,Lurie says it all. afrdmd
Eagles = No. 2 in this town. Phront_Runner
you people are pathetic. Years from now you will be begging for the likes of Reid and McNabb. I bet you thought Randall could run better, or Jaws had a better arm. You know nothing, put your keyboard down and pick up something that you know you can do right with. You're all losers... eagledon
Eagledon, I'm begging for the Eagles of 2001. That was a tough team. p-diddy

afrmd - If you want an inferior product and owner come to Washington. pyleiton
Yo P-Did, we had a bunch of tough teams. My point is that we never, ever had a run like this. We lost to Oakland in the SB in 81, and then what? Nothing. Buddy took us on a bus tour of Chicago, but got lost in the fog. Ray Rhoads inherited a great team and messed it all up. I'm just so sick of people who hate this team, I wish them all a speedy trip to Cleveland, or Tampa, or Seattle or...well, I think you get my point. I'm proud of this team and the job that they've done. This would all be mute except for an injury or two (Yo Stew, are you listening?). We should all be proud, instead of the BS that I see here eagledon- Satisfied with being good but not great? Satisfied with being competitive without a SB trophy? Scared of change? That's loser talk.
...never enough O-linemen, it seems...and look at the results of losing the LT last week...Reid always grabs an OL or two each draft, but still comes up short on experience when it counts...Andy might have to suit up this week...and Don needs to get the ball out sooner or use his legs more.... garyshaffer
pyleiton: # of Superbowl wins-Redskins 3, Eagles 0. Nuff said. afrdmd
I've been an Eagles season ticket holder for longer than most of the folks who comment on this site have been alive so I think I might have the advantage of perspective. I've watched the Eagles lose far more games over the last 50 years than they've won and just for perspectives sake, the Eagles under Reid/McNabb have been the most successful. However, no one on this site could be more frustrated than I when Reid/McNabb continue to make the same mistakes they've made for ten years. Because of my job, I now live in the Washington DC area but still attend all the Eagles home game and their game here in DC. If you want to be suicidal, try being a Redskins fan. There are times when I actually feel sorry for them. If you want to see an ineptly run organization, it's the Redskins. Hopefully, Reid/McNabb will be able to regroup this Monday and beat a team that's almost as woeful as the Raiders. With the current group of players on the Eagles, their season will be a success if they win 9 games. Semper Fi Joe
Kevin Curtis cannot stay healthy. He no longer can be counted on for anything and should be let go at seasons end. This looks like a season that could end up very poorly. bradco
afrdmd= you're 100% correct. But some of these morons refuse to see the light. Why buy tix and gear for a team that CLEARLY doesn't care about it's fans??? P.H.I
eagledon - just because we want just ONE super bowl does not mean we are bad fans. i wish i could be as content as you to just make the playoffs every year and choke. but true Eagles fans settle for nothing less than at least ONE super bowl in 11 years. Fire Andy Reid
